Myrtle is a Northern Redbellied Cooter.
Is she just the cutest thing you ever saw??! When Morris escaped I wanted another turtle. I found out that I could buy a baby turtle on-line and so I did. I don't have Myrtle or any other turtles anymore. I did find a good home for her with a guy that loves all kinds of reptiles. I thought I would be able to get my yard escape proof before Myrtle was big enough to need a pond. I didn't know how fast they grow. She was the first baby turtle I ever had that I actually knew how to take care of. By the time I was an adult and wanted a turtle you could not buy one less than 4 inches in a pet store and that was before the internet. I also realized that turtles really do have distinct personalities. Myrtle was nothing like Morris and I soon realized that no other turtle would probably ever be able to take Morris's place. He was a very cool turtle and I still feel horrible that I lost him. Maybe someday I'll have turtles again but not till I have the perfect paradise for them.
