Windows Vista FAQ - Yahoo! News

... So for home users, small businesses, and anyone who wants to buy a new Vista PC, the date that matters is January 30. That's when Vista will officially be launched as a consumer product. ...
Windows Vista FAQ on Yahoo! News

And Yahoo had better get their HTML working with IE 7 soon... the Window is closing on January's release date and far too many pages on Yahoo have pieces broken. (Notably absent at this time is the "View HTML" box on lower left of this edit window AND the boxes to Edit/Create/Delete Poll is ON by default, but anything put into the Poll is lost when Previewed!)

Hmmm... Meanwhile, back at the Flickr Ranch, nothing appears broken on Flickr pages with this same IE7 browser. Every feature I've ever used on Flickr continues to work without error or incident with IE7. Oh... yeah... MySpace works fine, too!

I also noticed that on the main YAHOO.COM page the 360* click on tab is not there. Good thing I have mine pegged in my bookmarks... I really do go with the adage, IF IT AIN"T BROKE, Don't try to fix it...

This isn't a missing link issue... this is fundamental page coding. Certain links and scripts on pages all over Yahoo services either not working or not present.

Besides the hard-to-see blog editor screen shot above, other examples include:

* The Delete, Spam, Move, buttons on Yahoo Mail (NON BETA!) do not work. Click and nothing happens.

* On My Yahoo pages, the module Edit and Move options do not work, neither does the pulldown at top to move to another My Yahoo page. (You only have one? Did you know you can have multiple My Yahoo pages?)

* The new Yahoo Photos pages just spin their little script wheels... never generating anything beyond a "loading..." thing.

On ALL Yahoo pages I see an "Error on page." message in the lower left corner of the IE7 browser window. Click on that error message and you learn that variable "'YAHOO' is undefined."

And, you never see even so much as an "Error on page." at other sites like Flickr and MySpace and BusinessWeek, etc.

Now... I do see "errors on page" at other sites, but I'm not trying to do email or edit page content on those sites. And IE 7 is certainly not really bug-free. (For instance, I turned off "Show Friendly HTTP Error Messages" and it still shows them.)

And this isn't my PC doing its anti-virus thing. I don't have anything more sophisticated than CA Antivirus. No firewalls, no anti-spy, no pop-up blockers, 3rd party anything running beyond basic anti-virus. (I don't have Messenger or that piece of crapware Y!Toolbar so much as installed on this PC.)

No... something *is* broken in Yahoo's code and someone needs to figure it out and fix it.

I use Firefox, but on another login. Maybe this will force me to switch... use this login with Firefox and my other (SBC) login with IE 7.

Still... Yahoo coding shouldn't be this sloppy. Unless Yahoo wants you using only their version of IE7.

See: http://downloads.yahoo.com/ - Yahoo's own IE 7 download. Oh, joy.

Guess they kind of missed the Christmas Sales Season! (heeh)

Hmmm, I'm using IE7. It has it's problems. It crashes, which my previous IE never did.

At this point in time, I think it's difficult to know just where the coding errors lie (imho). Both should be labeled "BETA", methinks. (lol)

Oh so that's why I lost my poll the other day!

Not to mention the lethargic hit counters, which takes all the fun out of blogging!

The errors must vary from server to server, cause I can view my blog in HTML… don’t know what I’d do without that?!

It surely *does* make for a tedious blogging experience lately… (sigh)

take care,

~Raenie

p.s. I only download the browsers version from the creators website. Don't care for all of those extra tool bars. Not to mention the fact that often times, the different programmers, aren’t in coordination. (heeh)

I can view the blog just fine, it's the editor that's borked.
