Amanda's Cochlear Implant Surgery! |
Amanda contracted a deadly bacteria that caused bacterial meningitis in January, 2000. Because of this, she is now profoundly deaf. On June 27, 2000, Dr. William Luxford, of the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles, performed surgery on her to implant a Cochlear Implant. She had it "turned on" on July 25, 2000 and is now doing amazing things! She hears amazingly well - even responding to me when I call to her from upstairs and she is downstairs. She speaks in over 3-4 word sentences and her intonation is beautiful. She is a miracle and I am amazed with her progress everyday. Ten years ago this would not have been possible - technology has allowed her to speak and her future is so bright because of this. Amanda attends the John Tracy Clinic Preschool and is doing wonderful there. John Tracy Clinic has been my lifesaver since I found out Amanda was deaf! Click here to see her preschool class recently at the Christmas Tree Farm.... |
