Generation No. 1

EVERETT HALL  (UNKNOWN1) was born 03-Jul-1810 in Bladen County, NC, and died 30-Nov-1860 in Black River Twp, Cumberland County, NC.  He married LUCY N BULLARD 27-Sep-1831 in Cumberland County, NC, daughter of BARTON BULLARD and NANCY FRAZIER.  She was born 19-Sep-1810 in Sampson County, NC, and died 26-Aug-1892 in Black River Twp, Cumberland County, NC.

Notes for EVERETT HALL:

Some confusion appears about the spelling of Rev. Hall's' first name.  The census records of 1859 and 1860 show it a "Everet".  The Cedar Creek Baptist Association give it as "Averet", and his grandson, James Lennon Hall, Sr., gave his grandfather's name as "Rev. Everett Hall" in his short but informative autobiography.  This writing goes on to say that the Rev. Hall was a pioneer Baptist preacher of Bladen County, who died before the Civil War at age 50 years. The N.C. Baptist Historical Collection at Wake Forest Univ. shows that he was an Elder at Beaverdam Baptist Church in 1852.  He was Pastor at Magnolia Bapt. Church in 1858. He pledged $2.50 (name spelled Averett) at Magnolia Baptist Church in Cumberland County in 1859.  He and his wife Lucy N. Bullard are buried at the Everett Hall - Redin House Family Cemetery located to the southwest of the intersection of SR1821 and SR1825 behind the home of Aaron McLaurin in the Eastover Twp. of Cumberland County.

Everette and Lucy are listed in the 1850 Census of Bladen County on the northeast side of the Cape Fear River (Dwelling  231) at age 40 and 40, with 10 children living at home.

They are listed in the 1860 Census on the Eastern Division of Cumberland County (Dwelling 94) at age 49 and 45 with 7 children living at home.

Notes for LUCY N BULLARD:

Lucy was baptized in 1837 by Elder David Minus at Beaver Dam BaptistChurch, Cumberland County, NC. "The Biblical Recorder Obituary Records 1877-1893 reported Lucy N. Hall, wife of Rev. A. Hall, member of Beaver Dam Church, Cumberland County died September 7, 1882.

Information from John C. Rosser, Jr. says that Lucy's middle name was Adeline, but that was her daughter's name.

Notes for JAMES ASHFORD HALL:

Butch Hall of Richmond (my first cousin) and his wife Nancy found James Ashford Hall's grave in the Oakwood Confederate Cemetery in Richmond.  He was wounded during the Seven Days Battle in Richmond (also called the First Cold Harbor Battle).  He died several days after being wounded in a Richmond hospital. Butch had a new tombstone erected at his gravesite.

Notes for ABSOLOM FENNELL APPS HALL:

Apps did not marry and died at his mother's home at age 46 , 4 years before his mother died.  Nothing is known of his health or his occupation.  Have not found that he served in the Civil War.

Notes for MARGARET BAIN:

According to Nancy Hall Robbins, her grandmother, Margaret Bain, lived with her son James L. and Ada after Len died, but later lived with her son Fulton and his wife in Fayetteville until she died.  She was named after her mother Margaret Peggy Graham Bain.

Jim Hall was more affectionately know as Papa by all of his grandchildren. My memories of him are very vivid because Granny and Papa lived with my mother (Nancy, their youngest child) and I for all of the years that I was in HighSchool and College at 507 Brooks Ave. in Raleigh, NC.  Papa was getting old and was quite febble at the time.

Notes for WILBUR GRAHAM HALL:

Wilbur Hall was the most widely known of the Hall brothers.  He was a Baptist Minister and much has been written about him and the churches he served. Ironically, he was the pastor at the Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC at which Manson and Edna Robbins and their sons attended when they lived there. He married several of the Robbins relatives there.  Also, he was the pastor of the Baptist church in Durham at which Paul Reddish's family attended.  Nancy Hall also lived in Durham at that time and that is how Nancy Hall first met Paul, her second husband.

Notes for CALLIE RAE STUBBS:

Ms Callie, as the family called her, had a sister named Jesse who lived with Wilbur and Callie.  Jesse never married but was a very likeable person.

According to Nancy Hall Robbins, her uncle Wilbur's son, Wilbur Adolph, shot himself while still a child, contracted an infection and died of lockjaw..

DANIEL MARSHALL HALL (HAYNES LENNON LEN3, EVERETT2, UNKNOWN1) was born Jan-1880.  He married ROXIE EASON.

Notes for DANIEL MARSHALL HALL:

Uncle Marshall lived in Smithfield. I remember going to his home with Jim and Ada when he died. They both died before Jim and Ada.  I remember Aunt Roxie and Harry during this visit.
