THOMAS ROBBINS and his family

The Sixth Generation

Thomas was born 1791 in Brunswick County, NC, and died there. He married a girl named ELIZABETH whose last name is unknown.  She was born 1787 in Brunswick County, NC, and died in Brunswick County, NC.

The only references we have to Thomas and his wife Elizabeth are found in the census records of 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850; along with the Mill Creek Baptist Church Minutes which were written in about 1816. He is shown in the 1820 Census Record as being Head of the household and having been born between 1776 and 1794. I have given his birth date at 1791 due to the 1850 Census having shown him as being 59 at that time. This 1850 census also shows Elizabeth as being 63 years old.

I believe that Thomas is the son of Arthur Robbins Jr. and Rebecca Anderson.  The only possibilities are Arthur Jr., Benjamin, William Abselom, and Jonathon, all sons of Arthur Sr.  The census shows Benjamin as having three sons in 1800; and those are Benjamin Jr., Joel and Daniel.  This 1800 census also shows William Abselom as having only one son living with him and this was Seth. Jonathon is shown in this 1800 census as having only one child, a female. Therefore, by elimination of the others, Thomas's father must have been Arthur Jr.  Also Benjamin and Jonathon are not mentioned in the Church minutes.

In the 1820 Census, he is shown as having 10 children, four males and six females. Also a male is shown living with Thomas and Elizabeth and having been born prior to 1775.  This is obviously not Arthur, Jr., William Abselom, or Jonathon because were still heads of their own households in 1820.  Also, the man is obviously not Benjamin because he had presumably left for Alabama in 1814.  So this man must have been Elizabeth's father. We do not know Elizabeth's last name, nor this old man's name.

Ths Mill Creek Baptist Church minutes of 1826 show Thomas as a member but not Elizabeth.  The 1836 minutes show Thomas Sr., Elizabeth, and Thomas, Jr. (Tommy) and Lucy Tharp as members. However, it also has written in the margin that all four of them were "Excluded Restored on the 29th of Aprl 1848." Both Thomas and Tommy are shown as heads of household in 1850 along with their wives. William and Kendrick are still living with Thomas in 1850.
