Greetings to all. Been a long time since I have undertaken my webpage, but I will give it a try once again! (Oh joy! Aren't you thrilled?!) Giggles! Life in Kentucky ... one of the many changes in our lives ... is anything but dull. This past month we have seen one of the worst winters. The week of February 15th Lexington was nothing more than ice. Oh it was so beautiful ... trees, plants, wires, signs, cars, all frozen solid. Try to envision a simple tree branch, encased in one to two inches of ice ... each leaf perfectly detailed. Snow covering the ground, the sun offering the false sense of warmth, reflecting on this glasslike landscape. As far as the eye can see and beyond the glistening beauty. Snow falls, adding further beauty. What was once upright and protecting, is now heavily burdened by the unbearable weight of ice, greatly stressed, to where thick branches break barely hanging on to the trunk to which they were once anchored, limbs fallen piled high on the ground. Streets covered with debris ... houses hidden behind the same debris. Power lines, cable lines, phone lines, all downed. Hundreds of thousands without power - without heat - many without water. Lexington is dark, once the last glimpse of sunlight disappeared. Slowly the soft glow of flickering flames could be seen if one looked carefully enough at what otherwise appeared to be a sleeping city where no one dwelled. This is how our city looked for a few days. The only real difference now is that we do have our modern convinences back - in Lexington anyway. Others in nearby cities have not been so fortunate. The have lost much. The food in there homes spoiled with no power, there is no heat to warm them. The Red Cross is doing what they can to help them with food and shelter ... but it isn't home. All over our country winter rages what has been said to be the harshest winter in 7 years. I know that many people are far less fortunate than I. To all of them I offer up my prayers to see them through. May you and yours be sheltered, fed, safe, and warm. As a result of the severe weather as you might imagine, school has been out more than in. Our of six weeks of school from January to mid February the kids had 4 five day weekends and one week out completely. OH JOY! During the week they were home, they both got sick. More JOY! During that time I had been suffering greatly from a bad tooth and the son of a bad word broke in half. (isn't life grand?) While they needed extra attention from me, I was not in any shape to offer it. BUT we managed. :) I am looking very forward to the onset of spring Then after the freeze came the thaw ... don't know which is worse! Much flooding occured. Driving hazards were ever present. The sky seemed dreary and gray. Spring is looking better by the second! LOL! The girls returned to school to learn that their "spring" break has been cancelled to make up for the time they have missed from school. The "administrative" days will be held on Saturdays to make up for the bad weather days too. I rather like it a lot ... but for some reason they seemed a little less than enthusiastic! Awww poor babies! They'll get over it! And school will let out on time as scheduled! Over all the girls are doing well ... they are again healthy and full of piss and vinegar. I've met with Allie's teachers recently as some noticable behavioral problems have developed. (they've been there, just now starting to rear up at school) and we had a 2 + hour meeting and have all gotten on the same page ... to corral some of her antics. Becky is steadily bringing up her grades. If she is unsuccessful in completing this, they have already assured me that they will hold her back next year. Which thus far has proven to be good incentive for Miss Rebecca Faye! So we shall see how it goes. Jerry and I are doing well. The job market on both plaines is disappointing at best, but there has to be a job for us! We will find them. We put a lot of time into meal planning and preparation. We get pretty creative at times. Once the weather gets nicer we are going to get out and explore Kentucky. (Jerry is familiar ... but I can get lost in an instant ... but I am getting better! ) And there you have it ... in a nut shell! Have a good month! Til then ... bye for now. |
