SPEECHES

Just imagine, will you? How could those four persons actually do such a thing? 2 innocent young men had to die because of their own interests. It's just not fair. Their parents should've seen it coming, but never did. But what do I know? I'm only from San Salvador, and this sort of thing usually doesn't happen around here. I'm only just beginning to understand why this murder had to happen. Why wasn't anything done to prevent it??

It just goes to show that you never know when or where this sort of thing can happen. It's understandable that those four kids hate people, but did they have to go that far? I mean, sure there's people who hate other people, but nothing like what happened a few weeks ago. Like I said before, it's just not fair. Not fair to the family, friends, community, or the Bahamas itself.

It's been four weeks now. The wall has been fixed, the tragedy no longer is read in the papers or heard on the radio...still, we can never forget what happened that day.

I knew O'Dinge Pinder and no matter what the provocation was for such and act, no one this young should ever have to die. It demonstrates a central point and as young persons we need to realize that an act performed in anger can devastate a family, it can erase a life of laughter and love and causes pain to all involved.

Those who knew Cameron and Ding realize that they will never see joy in their faces or experience the warmth of their presence again; they can only hold on to memories. Do you really want to have to just remember" your brothers and sisters? Wouldn't you rather live every day loving them, alive and happy?

Every time you express hatred and commit a violent act, you are contributing not only to their family's pain but the nation's pain because we weep when we see a waste of life. We cry out to God and ask why and the only answer we ever get back is that a person's immeasurable hatred caused this.

Wake up Bahamians! Think before you act and always be faster to love than to hate...

The Bahamas is too small for us to be living like this. We as young people have to learn to live together and love one another. Being a victim of a violent crime and the cousin of someone who was violently murdered the hurt and the hate is immeasurable. You can sometimes see the fury in my eye when I think about what happened to my cousin and me. We must understand that they did the same thing to Christ and he never fought back. Look to the cross for that inner healing. God never puts on us more than we can bear. This story brought tears to my eyes because too many people I know have been murdered for frivolous reasons.

To the Family - Justice will prevail - if not now, it definitely will in the end!
