Our Travels.

Big Ben----- Lands End

From HongKong,we flew to London via Bangkok,

Marg and Beefeater------Tower Bridge------Fleet Street
<

arriving at 8pm. On departing Bangkok at midnight,we flew for about three hours and then had another midnight. We experienced the longest dawn... about three hours or more. We seemed to be just keeping ahead of the rising sun. The plane took us just 150 km south of Moscow.
Arrival in England was at 07.00 hours. We had two days looking around London. Thought it was marvelous. On the third day we hired a car and spent the first 4 days with our son Les,in Newquay, Cornwall in the south west of England. He was at that time working at the Harvester Hotel in Newquay. The south of England is beautiful in autum.
The next three weeks we spent touring England and Scotland. It is a magnificent country.(especially Scotland, in Margarets opinion!) If the person who is reading this, has'nt already done Britain, do it!!

___LONDON ______

The city that has a mind of its own. The city that is on the move twentyfour hours a day. A city where you can ask a taxi driver to take you where you want to go, and HE KNOWS HOW TO GET YOU THERE without asking you how, or looking at a street directory to find the way.
Having lived in a country that has been the home of European settlement for just over two hundred years, we found it difficult to try and comprehend the antiquity of some of the buildings we visited during our stay in London and indeed, all over the United Kingdom.
The Tower of London took us many hours to see what we did see, but we still didn't look at everything. It is a shame that you can not take photos in the Crown Jewel House. I think that everyone that sees the display would like to take some record of their visit there, home with them.
We toured England and Scotland for three weeks and enjoyed every moment of it.{At least Margaret did. I ate something that was not quite right and ended up in St Marys hospital in Paddington London.
They wanted to keep me there for two or three days to make sure I didn't have anything contagious.
We talked them out of that because we were flying to Germany the next day.
They gave me some pills and away we went.

********SCOTLAND********

Glen Garry-------Border-------Nelsons Memorial

It has a beauty all its own. The dark bleak mountains, the heather covered hills. Lochs that sparkle when the sun shines and look dim and forbidding when cloudy.
We were lucky enough to be in Scotland just when the heather was starting to bloom and it was a most beautiful display.
Margarets heritage on her fathers side, is almost pure Scottish. There will be more about our family histories on another page later.
It is amazing the number of small brick cottages that are falling into ruin in the Highlands. They have probably been built for centuries and nobody seems to care.

JohnO'Groats

John O'Groats is the most northerly town in the Scotland and sufferes from terrible storms. Margaret was hoping to see some rough weather, but I didn't want to have to drive through their kind of storms.
Hope you can visit with us in Germany on the next page.
