GENERATION V - James Hoge I, b. 1706, New Jersey; d. 2 Jun 1795, Frederick Co. Va; m. (1) Nancy Griffith, (2) Agnes Crawdford. Most books and records indicate that Agnes Crawford was his first wife and Nancy Griffith, the second. I believe that this is wrong and can be proven by his will:

HOGE, JAMES Will: 18 Mar, 1793/5 July 1795 Wife: Agnus Hoge Children: Moses, James, Solomon, John, Edward (dec'd), Martha Allen, Mary Evans, Barbara Reed. Gr. Ch: Moses and Edward Hoge, sons of son Edward, dec'd. "Being spomewhat ailing in body." To wife, negro Jude beside her thirds. Personal estate to be appraised except the still; remainder to children as wife decides. If she marries, all but widow's thirds to be divided, half to son Moses, quarter to son James, quarter to daughter Martha Allen. To grandsons Moses and Edward Hoge, land in survey made by Thomas Buck, 186 acres Moses to enjoy whole until brother Edward is 21. If one dies, survivor to have whole. Son Solomon Hoge to have all the rest of land, conditioned on his payment of legacies; to John Hoge, son, to Mary Evans, to Barbara Reed - 5 shellings sterling if they come to demand it; to son James, 20 pounds; to daughter Martha Allen, 15 pounds. d. 1870, Dayton, Rhea Co. Tn; buried in Sequatchie Co. Tn; m. Nichols
Methodist Church, Sequatchie Co. Tn, Nancy Wheeler, daughter of Joel and
Betsy McWilliams Wheeler.
Joseph J. Hoge was County Court Clerk in Rhea Co. Tn., in the 1860's, until
his death in 1870.
The book "Hoge and Hoge." by Lola Gentry Hogue and Jacquelyn Hogue Hall
Gentry, lists many of the descendants of Joseph Johnson Hoge through the
early 1980's.
His children were:

Brown. She died, July 1859, two weeks after the birth of my grandfather.
His 2nd wife was Margarette J.(or Mary) Montgomery, m. 24 Feb. 1866, Rhea
Co. Tn.
Joel Wheeler fought for the Union during Civil War with 11th Tennessee
Calvary and 7th Tennessee Infantry. He drove an ammunition wagon and was
captured and spent time in Confederate prison at Mobile, Al. His 1st child,
with Kittie(?) Brown was:

GENERATION X Flavius Josephus "Flav" Hoge, b. 5 July 1859, Bledsoe Co. Tn; d. 13 Dec.
1935, Chattanooga, Tn. His mother, Kittie(?), died two week after he was
born and he was raised by his paternal grand-parents, Joseph J. and Nancy
Wheeler Hoge.
He married, 10 Feb. 1884, Satirah Angeline Brown (b. 3 Oct. 1858, d. 24
Apr. 1923). She was born in possibly Meigs or Rhea Co's. Tn. Her parents
were possible J. Boyd Brown and Kit(?) McCallie. (no proof).
Both Flavius and Satirah are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chattanooga,
Tn.
