Tap Dance Curriculum

Combination Ballet/Tap - Ages 5-6 - 1 hr./week

Center Work:

TOE DROPS: Hands on Knees, feet parallel, alternate toe drops.
HEEL DROPS: Hands extended front, feet parallel, alternate heel drops
TAP STEPS: Extend leg forward, tap ball of foot, step together; alternates sides
DIG STEPS: Heel dig to side, step together; alternates sides
DIG BALL CHANGE: heel dig to side, stamp R foot, stamp L foot; doesn't alternate sides
TURNING DIG BALL CHANGE: perform a regular "Dig Ball Change"; Turn 1/4 on each 
consecutive repetition. (4X will = 1 full turn) TOE TIP behind standing leg, step together; alternate sides TOE TIP BALL CHANGE: toe tip behind standing leg, stamp R foot, stamp L foot; doesn't
alternate sides TIC-TOC's: Toe drops on R (or L) foot, turn out, turn in, ... HEEL-TOE-HEEL TWIST: Heel dig to side, turn leg in to tap tip of toe, turn out to repeat
heel dig, step together; alternates sides HEEL STAND: Heel dig R, heel dig L, Jump both feet together PAS DE BOURREE: Stamp to R, step L behind R, step R to side, Heel dig L; alternates sides SQUASH THE BUG - heel dig R to side, toe drop R, step L foot towards R, travels to R,
doesn't alternate sides SQUASH THE BUG JUMP - heel dig R to side, toe drop R, jump w/both feet to R side;
alternate sides CRAMP ROLL: step R, step L, heel drop R, heel drop L; performed with a "jump" feeling SLAPS to side (a flap w/o weight change); doesn't alternate SHUFFLES: brush front, brush back; doesn't alternate SHUFFLE STEP: brush front, brush back, step; alternates sides SHUFFLE HOP STEP: brush front, brush back, hop, step; alternates sides SHUFFLE BALL CHANGE: brush front, brush back, step back, other foot step forward;
doesn't alternate SHUFFLE BALL CHANGE STAMP: brush front, brush back, step back, other foot step forward;
Stamp together; alternates sides Across floor: HEEL-TOE WALKS: Dig heel forward, Drop ball of same foot; alternates sides TOE-HEEL WALKS: (aka-"The Stapler") Step forward onto ball of foot, drop heel of same foot; alternates sides SHUFFLE HOP STEPS: Brush front, brush back, hop on standing leg, step forward; alternates sides WALKING FLAPS: Brush front, step forward; alternates FLAP HEEL WALKS: Brush front, step forward, drop heel of same foot; alternates Combinations/Dances: Combine above steps into short combinations. Use repetition and repeat things on both sides.
