George E. Briggs was know as "Governor Briggs"
by himself for the gold fields of California.
He settled on the Althouse in Southern Oregon
and his family followed including his mother,
Lyvia in 1883. They also sailed around the horn
and wintered in Crescent City, California.
and was the legislator who introduced a bill in
1855 to form Josephine County from Jackson
County.
