*A noticeable peak on Big Ridge, in The Marble Mountain Wilderness Area,
where Uncle Lee (my Father) died in the Autumn snow of 1971 has been re-
named. It took the Waddell family a couple of days with sixteen searchers
to find him, a grassy and rocky peak known as Stoney Valley to old timers
like Uncle Lee. This peak will be named in honor of Uncle Lee C. Waddell,
a local mule packer and U.S. Forest Service trail maintenance man in NCA
for over 40 years. Lee C. Waddell was locally known as "Uncle Lee" and was
known to be a mule packer and a man of the mountains for many years. After
he died in the snow, our family and friends talked of naming this peak in
Uncle Lee's honor. It is quite a lengthy legal process. Jim Waddell of Rose-
ville, Cal. is the one that got the ball rolling.
