Arthur migrated to Windsor, Canada in 1928 -- his father (William Herbert) had arranged for a clerical position in an accountancy firm there. In 1929, he crossed the river into Detroit, Michigan, and became a naturalized US citizen in 1934. From then until about 1970, when he retired to Florida, he lived in the Detroit area, where he was an accountant and entrepreneur.
In the 1950's, he was quite active with the US Professional Golfers Association (not as a player). In 1953, he was elected to the PGA's Advisory Board, where he served for about 5 years, along with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, among others.
