November
2004 - We end our association with the San Leon VFD. Me and Debbie resigned as a
result of certain activities that were being allowed to occur that we did not agree with,
and which we did not want to be held legally responsible for. Michael also resigned
because his schooling interferred with his FD obligations. Mark resigned a couple years
earlier to attend school also.
September
2005 - When Hurricane Rita threatened the Mid-Texas Coast, Galveston County
Officials called for a mandatory evacuation of low-lying areas of the county
and of Galveston Island & the Bolivar Peninsula as well. We evacuated about 6 hours
before the mandatory evacuation was imposed and headed west to Dianes
Grandparents ranch in Leakey, Texas. It took us
about 12 hours to make what would normally have been about a 6 hour trip. Renee and her
bunch joined us several hours later. Everyone made the trip OK, but Deb lost a cat and
Renee lost a hamster. We spent a week there in the hill country, and the guys even got a
chance to do a little hunting. Check out the Aoudad
Sheep Mark bagged while out hiking with Diane.
A beautiful Axis Buck - Typical of the wildlife in the area around Leakey. This buck was "shot" by my daughter Renee.
