117 West Front Street
Originally owned by: Bowlus
The Bowlus house appears to be a mirror image of the Hobart house (107 West Front Street). While the window crowns and the roof brackets appear to be original, roof-line balustrade features have been removed. Henry F. Bowlus, brother-in-law of Marcene Hobart and the first occupant, was a prosperous merchant and businessman. Initially, he managed small retail businesses and was a member of a local tile manufacturing firm. When the oil boom came, the tile business gave way to the black gold. Bowlus served as a councilman and mayor in Pemberville. |
