The Pember-Furry House
Built prior to the original 26 lot survey entered by James Pember, and believed to be the oldest existing building in the village, the Pemberville Historical Society has recently restored this fine example of early Black Swamp homes. This fold-style building is a typical one-and-a-half story, front-gabled house with a one-story side gable with flared roof and front porch. Notice the trim and accent windows in the front door and the six over six double-hung windows. There is an old frame schoolhouse in the back yard. Pember sold this house to Jacob L. Furry, an in-law, in 1858. Furry and his daughter, Minnie, lived in this house for many years thus giving the house it's name, the "Furry house." |
