Since June of last year, much attention has been directed toward the tragedy of a mother intentionally drowning all five of her children, one by one, in the family bath tub. This was indeed a horrible occurrence, and the thorough news media coverage it received is understandable. However, during the two hundred and sixty-five days that elapsed between the children's deaths and the mother's courtroom conviction, there were an estimated one million girls and boys who were killed, with their mothers' consent, at the hands of abortionists... None of these were mentioned by the news media because they were not news. Abortion is the law of the land in our country.
Heart disease is widely known to be our country's number one killer, taking another victim every minute. This adds up to just over half a million deaths each year. The publicity given by the news media to the large number of people dying from heart disease is helpful in making the public aware of the danger, thereby reducing the number of deaths from the disease. Again, little or no mention is made of the intentional killing of well over twice that many babies each year through abortion.
These examples illustrate how the news media along with many of our fellow countrymen have come to take abortion for granted. We who know abortion to be the willful killing of a living child must continue to spread the news of the reality of this horror whenever the opportunity arises. With God's help we can change minds.
