MY CHILD SUFFERS FROM ATTACHMENT DISORDER...that's the first thing I remember saying to my wife..."Ok so we get a doctor and fix the problem". I find that my response is so typical of men. How long can it possibly take I said.....FOREVER.... was my wifes reply....That's when I decided that I was going to find out everything about this horrible disorder that I possibly could and pass that information to others.
Symptoms of Attachment Disorder.. The following list of symptoms were taken from the information provided by "The Attachment Center at Evergreen"
1)superficially engaging, charming(phoniness)2)lack of eye contact 3)indiscriminately affectionate with strangers 4)lacking ability to give and receive affection 5)extreme control problems(covert or "sneaky" ways 6)destructive to self,others,things 7) cruel to animals 8)chronic or crazy lying 9)no impulse control 10)learning lags and disorders 11)lacking cause and effect thinking 11)lack of conscience 12) abnormal eating patterns 13)poor peer relationships 14)preoccupied with fire,blood, gore 15)persistent nonsense questions and incessant chatter 16)abnormal speech patterns 17)inappropriatley demanding and clingy 18) abnormal speech patterns
19)parents appear unreasonably hostile and angry.If your child has alot of these symptoms...please seak professional help.
There are many area's of help needed for parents of children with this disorder. Education and support, legal, Professional. A great place to start is with"Attachment Disorder Support Group Homepage". These people have a wealth of information and a Bulletin Board that really helps......I highly recommend this page. "KuddleKids"..or.."Association for Treatment and Training of Attachment Disorder"both of these web sites have a wealth of Information for parents.

There are many good books available on RAD and related disorders. Recently we purchased the book "When Love Is Not Enough" by Nancy L. Thomas. This is a book or manual if you will on parenting children with RAD. I don't usually recommend any books because of the various methods available to deal with RAD children......but this is a must book. I believe the cost is somewhere in the area of $15.00.
