Hi. :-) If you're here, it's probably because you need some HTML help. But if that's not the case, and you actually just wandered in, please sit down and take a look at what I have been working on. These pages are designed to explain a little bit about HTML, without rewriting all of the books that already exist on the subject. What I'm going to try to do with these pages is walk you through each step of creating a webpage by actually writing the HTML code yourself. If you prefer to use GeoBuilder to create your pages, there is a great GeoBuilder help page here. I'm not going to make a new GeoBuilder help page, because I'm not familiar enough with it to do so, but also because I think that one is a great page, and I don't see the point of fixing something that's not broken. :-) I'm assuming that since you're here looking for help, you already have a GeoCities address. If that's not the case, then you can go here to get one. I generally prefer to write my HTML using WordPad. However, that is certainly not the only place one can write HTML code. It needs to be saved as a text only file type, so that the HTML is not mucked up by word processor formatting. So with that in mind, you can use pretty much anything that lets you type text and save files as text only. For the purposes of this page, I'm going to assume you're using WordPad. When I first start to write a page, I open a new file in WordPad and immediately save it as some file name, in the text only file type. That way, I don't even start typing with some strange formatting - HTML looks pretty strange if you end up with your file saved as a .doc type file. :-) Step one of what you are going to do is open a new file and name it index.html. Save it as text only type. Once that's done, you're free to start writing code. |
