The Background: This is Lenny's thinking behind this beautiful song of worship.
"When I wrote this song I was very aware of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I know that Jesus taught us that our bodies are the Temples of the Holy Spirit, but we mostly don't believe it. We think God deals with us from afar, but He doesn't .... He relates to us from within, where He dwells. He is the River running through our souls. Christ within us is the hope of glory! When we pray we need not raise our voices to the clouds, but rather we can simply whisper and He within us will hear and answer quickly and willingly."
"In the song we are asking God to continue to let His river flow out from under His throne and flow through us and out across the world. All this "theology" can be imparted to us as we sing this song. That is my hope and my goal."
"The song "Our God Reigns" also has an interesting melody and it conveys the message and assurance of God's rule and reign on the earth. So too, this song, "You Are The River," can impart the conviction that Christ within is our all in all and a treasury of all we could ever want or need."
