The votes are in! The fearsome leader mantle has passed from Odin (Sky) to Lizzard. Odin had indicated that he felt it was time for him to step down and even nominated Lizzard to take his place. Although we were waiting for Odin to publish a last Highway Poet, in which he was to explain his decisions, it was felt that we must get on with business, so I sent a ballot to all active Highway Poets. This ballot had three items. The first was to vote in Lizzard as National Secretary. The second was to vote in Grumpy (me!) as Membership Secretary. The last item concerned the adoption of a new patch design, as indicated in the new design on this masthead.
89% of the membership, including
Odin, voted in favor of all items, while the rest let their yea votes
be counted by default by not registering a nay vote! Lizzard and I
have our hands full, trying to take over from Odin's inspired
leadership. We need to get cranking with new prospects, get the Poets
involved in events and get the club more profile.
A February article in the Motorcyclist's Post shed some light on what happened with Brothers Peddler and Ogar. The headline reads: Rock'n Roll! PILGRIM-PROPHETS MOTORCYCLE CLUB and leads into the first newsletter of the Pilgrim-Prophets Motorcycle Club, which is coming to form as we speak. Peddler, the author of this item, then goes on to outline the rhyme and reason for this new club, which is primarily geared toward the Christian-oriented biker. He explains the patch protocol and the logic behind the name and the differences between a Pilgrim and a Prophet, and introduces that club's chaplain, the Reverend Doug. This lengthy article goes into some detail about the "mission" of this club and refers to the bible often. For more information write to: Pilgrim-Prophets MC, 5 Dodge St. Apt. #129, Beverly, MA 01915
I wish them well, although I am
no friend of religiousity! Brother Splitfoot, as mentioned in
Grumpy-Talk
10, is busily building up the
GONAS MC on the West coast. Once the dust settles from our own
leadership shake-up, I hope that we can link up with these other
clubs and continue to enjoy our strength in numbers!
Our own "Lady" Pat visited the Boston Bike Show on February 7 and shot lots of great pictures. Here are some:
The first shot shows an interesting take on the "Captain America" theme. The bike below seems to be just the kind of ride I am looking for. It is not likely to tip to its right!
We thank Lady Pat for these great
pictures and will feature some of the others in upcoming issues!
Here is a shot of me in front of our new club house. NOT! This is actually a shot I couldn't resist as we passed by this lounge in Hamburg, Germany in the summer of '97. With the back to the camera is my son Willy. Son Armin is operating the camera. And digging really deep into the archives, here is a shot of Armin, who will become 16 this year and is taller than I!
Yes! You are seeing correctly! That is Uncle T holding my number 1 son. Let me close this issue with a business card I couldn't resist. NO, it is NOT Bro Sky's establishment, but you can see why I just had to stop in.
No, let me close this edition of Grumpy-Talk with the announcement that Sir George and Lady Cirila are finally pregnant!
