BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE

In irony it seems that this career,
Should end in peacetime, here,
It spanned two wars and saw continents three,
'Til he was sent to teach at M.I.T.

To the Far East he gave ten percent of his life,
In fact, there's where he met his wife.

But Massachusetts saw duty hazardous,
With a morning commute precarious,
Somerville by Cambridge closely lies,
The way by road is but two miles,
That distance made longer by an incident,
And capped by forced retirement.

...This poetry collection may explain to some how I came to be "retired" as a Staff Sergeant! My Army career over, I am active with the American Legion and am currently the commander of Nabnassett Post 437 in Westford, Massachusetts.
