The K-Numbers unraveled!
It is really quite logical. Looking at a person's K-number (Keidel-number) it is easy to discern which generation and family unit this individual belongs. I research each Keidel branch as far back as possible and number the earliest known person as 1! The Branch letter designation is arbitrary; my branch is A, as I started with mine! I am numbered:
A1112-313, identifying me as the third child of
A1112-31, Wilhelm Heinrich Keidel (1904), first child of
A1112-3, Carl Fritz Ernst Keidel (1877), third child of
A1112, Carl Wilhelm Franz Keidel (1845), second child of
A111, Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Keidel (1787), the first child of
A11, Ernst Heinrich Ludwig Keidel (1764), possibly the first child of
A1, Johann Anton Sigismund Keidel (ca. 1730)
Note I said of A11 that he was possibly the first child of
Johann Anton Sigismund Keidel. I am not sure what, if any, siblings,
Ernst Heinrich Ludwig Keidel had. Should I discover any, and he was
NOT the first child, then all the numbers following will change. This
has happened with some of the other branches - this is an ongoing
process!
