Preface

This is not an autobiography as such, but a compilation of high spots in my wonderfully happy and interesting life. I prepared this collection first to read in Betty Stringer's class in LIFE STORY WRITING, which I took specifically to learn about "desk top publishing." Her instructions were most helpful.

Some of the articles were written years ago at the time of the experience with the idea of submitting them for publication, but while my children were young most of them were never sent out, and then forgotten until now. Other stories are written from my diary accounts, sometimes using what I wrote in my diary in a casual style at the time editing with additions, and deletions. Two are letters sent, one to our children about the trip to Mt. Sinai, and the other the Christmas letter we sent from India during our "round the world" adventure in 1967-68.

The pictures, except for the studio pictures of my ancestors, are all my own and as of now cover 73 years with a camera. I received my first camera, a Kodak bellows (3A, I think), from my father when I was 12, All the pictures taken before 1938 were taken with this camera, but after that I used several other cameras over the years. I reprinted some of the pictures in this book from my file of negatives just recently.

I couldn't have prepared these stories without the help of my son, Richard, who instructed me in the intricacies of the computer, without which I could never have prepared these stories. He did much of the editing and printing for me, too, for which I am most thankful.
