This past summer (1998) Sada began exhibiting a raspy, hoarse bark. We took him to the vet's to have it checked. We were stunned when she said that it sounded like LP. We had never heard of it! He was sedated and a laryngoscopy was performed. LP was confimed along with an inflamed tonsil. An antibiotic was administered for the inflamed tonsil and a specialist was consulted for the LP.  The Specialist said that no surgery is required at this time, but told us to watch for a rattling sound  and to get him right to vet if we should hear one.

After visiting the LP site and reading lots about low thyroid,
I requested a thyroid panel. The Vet was surprised as he had shown no sypmtoms of thyroid disease. The Thyroid panel came back with hypothyroid levels  and Sada was put on 0.3mg 2x daily of soloxine. 30 days later, another blood test was given to re-check thyroid levels. Still low in T4. the Soloxine was increased to 0.6mg 2x daily. Sada has to go back in another 30 days to check the results of this increase. The Vet is hoping that soloxine will halt the progression of the LP, but this may not happen. We can only hope.
