A Pilgramage to Savoie! |
Taking the Holy Father literally, your webmaster, Bill Griffiths and his wife Bonnie, returned to their roots in the year 2000. As it happened, Bonnie's father, Joachim, was born in the small French Alpine village of St. Julien de Maurienne and for a number of years was educated with the Sisters at Annecy, France, the "home" of our beloved St. Francis de Sales. Feeling strongly (and with tongue in cheek) that St. Francis was definitely not an Irishman, we set out to prove that his mode of dress should either (a)remain "bishop's red" or (b) change to grey as was his common color. From our many photos, you can see that St. Francis was indeed a son of Savoie! A bonus of this whole adventure was the discovery of the village of Duingt (rhymes with "swing") and the most wonderful hoteliers in our travelling experience, Anne et Thierry Borsoi and their two charming young daughters, Lena & Jade. We are pleased to let you know that language was no problem, even though our French is quite limited. Another bonus, we have developed an interest in learning more French and intend to return again to this wonderful vacation area. |
