The latest Ferret frolic was held at the Band Rotunda in the Auckland Domain on Sunday 9th September. Although the turnout in numbers was disappointing, all those who attended, both fuzzies and their human friends, enjoyed the good company, events and soaked up the sun. It was indeed a beautiful spring day and our many thanks must go to Michelle Fisher and Barbara (Nan) Walker for their tireless efforts in the organisation of this event. During the day we saw many activities including a maze (in which some ferrets had their own "style" in negotiating its pathways), a "pin the tail on the ferret" and a hurdles activity which only Merlin interpreted as meaning one goes "over", not around or under (whoever said ferrets were predictable??) Other events included a tube race and a fancy dress. 3 ferrets shone here as "a fairy", "Crocodile Dundee" and that NZ icon, "the Buzzy Bee". When we humans attempted to have a "quickest to take the hat off" competition, the ferrets reinvented it and decided it was more fun leaving them on and having a party together. Because it was such a nice day many of the general public who were out and about came over to see what was happening and share in our fun. --Barbara Choat, |
