To a Wild Rose

Now playing: To a Wild Rose

By Edward MacDowell

My body longs for you like a dry weary wasteland without water

-King David

Sleep my Wild Rose,

Sleep.

I am Spirit Howler

Who watches over you as you sleep,

Who comforts you in your suffering,

Who keeps you safe and warm through the darkest hour of the night.

Sleep, my Wild Rose,

Sleep.

You are safe tonight.

Sleep.

You are the Wind that sighs in the trees; you refresh my soul,

You are the Earth, which upholds my every step,

You are the Fire, that burns deep within my breast,

You are the Water, without which I would wither and fade.

You are the Owl, that soars high above, watching over me,

You are Mother Nature, providing all I need to live,

You are the Wild Rose, kissed by the morning dew,

You are the Air, I have breathed you in and drowned in all that is you.

Oh the joy of that passing!

When I gave myself over to your love!

Never has my soul known such peace, such bliss!

I am yours, My Wild Rose, until the end of time!

     When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes

     I alone beweep my outcast state,

     And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,

     And look upon myself, and curse my fate;

     Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,

     Featured like him, like him with friends possest,

     Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope,

     With what I most enjoy contented least;

     Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,

     Haply I think on Thee - and then my state,

     Like to the lark at break of day arising

     From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;

     For thy sweet love remembre'd, such wealth brings

     That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

- by William Shakespeare -

Who are You, my darling?

Who are You who has taken

My suffering as Your suffering?

My Happiness as Your Happiness?

My Life and death as Your Life and death?

My love,

Why aren't you

a Dewdrop

a Butterfly

a Bird?

Ask this with your whole being.
