The Pump

Disconnect Your Linkages

Now move to the rear of your jet ski, and perform a careful evaluation of what you find. Models with quicktrim systems, now you know why you need a cotter pin. A single pin keeps the linkage that pivots the nozzle up and down in place. On the right hand side of the pump, you will notice two hoses. These are the bilge lines. They work by creating a vacuum and sucking all the water out of the hull. A large solid hose in front and above these is the water pickup line for engine cooling.

Begin by cutting the cotter pin and removing it. Also cut the wire ties holding the water return lines on. Do not cut the hose itself! Remove the hoses from the pump housing by pulling on them. They should just slide right off. The final step is to unbolt the steering linkage. Make sure you set all parts aside and in order. You don't want to lose ANYTHING.
