Ski Stand

Please Stand

Ever get jealous of those stand ups pulling off ski stands like it was nothing? Is blowing by them in a drag race getting old? Well you too can get your ski to stand on its tail! I hear that this trick is easy to do on a Sea Doo, but I have never seen any other run-about do this! DO NOT do this without an electrig bilge pump of at least 500gph.

STEP 1: There are two distinct ways to start this trick, on or off plane. You also have to get the front end of the boat as light as possible! In a Polaris, that means waiting until it is almost empty. Other ways to make this easier is to retain the stock ride plate. A longer one will hamper this trick! And you must have a jet ski equipped with a trim system.

STEP 2: Choose your area wisely! This means check surrounding traffic and water conditions. Your area should be at least ten feet deep. Above all, be careful!

STEP 3: Ok, both of these steps are very contrary to the previous two tricks, but if you perfect them, you can do it! First, you need some ballast in the hull. I find that ten or so gallons of water does the trick. (Don't worry, most engine bays could accommodate a lot more water than that!) In order to flood out your engine bay, submerge the ski a few times.

STEP 4: Trim up before you attempt this trick. ALL THE WAY UP! Step to the rear of the ski, as far back as possible. If you are on plane, spin the ski 180 degrees, straighten and floor it pushing down with all your might in the rear. If you are idling, do the same, sans the 180 degree spin.

STEP 5: Well, it takes a shit load of practice to make perfect. I must of attempted this one close to thirty times before I could bob it up and down in the water. A large heavy ski is no ballet dancer, and it will attemp to lean over on its side. Balance the ski with throttle and steering inputs. To get out of the stand, throttle up and lean forward.

Well, that's about it. Go out and try it now! The stand-up guys always look at me in awe when they see this one!

If you have any tricks to add, I will add them to this site. Just e-mail me a picture and a description!
