Dunmore's War

In Brief

This war was so named because Lord Dunmore was then Governor of Virginia, and participated in this struggle.
The Indians killed a few settlers in 1773, but the fighting did not become active until 1774, and ended that same year.
Most of the fighting was near the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers, but some was at other places. The Battle of Point Pleasant was ther hardest fight in the War, in which about 75 were killed and 140 wounded on each side.
More than 2,000 fighters were furnished by Berkeley, Hampshire, Frederick and Shenandoah Counties and many came from other Counties and places.
The Princiipal Commanders in theis War were General Andrew Lewis, Colonels Angus, McDonald, and Fleming, and Captains Daniel Morgan, James Wood, Michael Cresap, Mathew Arbuckle, Buford, Murray and Charles Lewis.
