Catholic Radio Sacramento |
The major Catholic radio station for the Sacramento Area is Sacrament Most Holy Radio, KSMH, at AM 1620 which broadcasts from the Sacramento. Some people south of Sacramento may get Our Lady of Guadalupe Radio, KWG, at AM 1230 broadcasts from Stockton. Both carry almost exactly the same programming. A new Catholic station, at 93.3 FM is now broadcasting from Woodland, about 10 miles West of Sacramento, with different programing than the other two stations. So far what I have heard has been mostly mostly religious classical music.
AM 1620 and AM 1230 are non-commercial stations financed through donations and have exactly the same exclusively religious programming. They are very Catholic and very loyal to the Pope. KSMH, 1620, has a locally produced show, "The Bishop's Radio Hour" with Bob Dunning. When school is not in session I frequently call in. Bob's call in number is (916) 450-0720 for those who can reach it with a local call or want to pay for their call. The toll free number for those outside the calling area is 1 (800) 489-0111. There is also an e-mail address and I think a fax number, I will have to find these.
AM 1620 broadcasts with ten thousand watts during the day, one thousand at night. So the signal comes in much better during the day time. The point is if you do not get it at night try again before sundown. AM 1230 has a 900 watt signal all day long but I find the signal comes in much better during the day. There is a station, 1600 AM, that may be stronger for you at night and broadcasts old music from before the rock and roll era from Yuba city. I used to find this useful in finding KSMH, 1620, before their move because 1620 is just a little farther up the dial. KWG, 1230 AM is between a Spanish station and a Protestant Christian station. I find it difficult to tune in Davis because the other stations are so close to it on the dial. For more advice on getting better middle wave or AM radio reception. see my web page that collects the best ideas from many web sites. I also have a web page with unique tips and important links for better AM radio reception. You can also check out geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/3332/amradio.html by the pilot of the air waves. Holy Rosary parish in Woodland now has a low power FM station at 93.3 FM. The 100 watt signal is mostly intended for Woodland. With a fifty dollar GE Superadio I can get a good signal on the second story of our town house in North Davis. Using an old, cheap, "rabbit ears" television antenna and my GE Superadio I have got a good signal on the first floor. I put the rabbit ears on top of a high book shelf, spreading the rabbit ears wide so they fit under the ceiling. This gives me an antenna that is high enough to bring in the Woodland station. You have to get a good signal for it to be valuable because they only play music. A marginal talk signal can be useful, but marginal music is pretty worthless. To pull in the signal outside of Woodland it is useful to know what you are doing, so I have a web page with FM reception advive. If you want EWTN at night you could try short-wave radio. They have some very good directions on getting short-wave at EWTN's web site. But here is another tip. EWTN broadcasts off band. Many of the older short-wave radios will not pick up their station because it is on a part of the spectrum that was not used for short-wave in the past. I have just got hold of a new, but very cheap, shortwave radio. I am getting very clear signals here in the Sacramento area. I have created a web site on international band or short-wave radio and EWTN. Immaculate Heart Radio has stations for Sacramento, Stockton, Fresno, and Reno.
If you have information about Catholic Radio in the Sacramento area, please leave a note in my guest book.
