SOME THINGS CHANGE; SOME THINGS DON’T In 1958 when we were teenagers, we never dreamed that as we listened to Pat Boone sing sweet love songs that today’s youngsters would be jiving to the sound of a rapper named Snoop Dogg. We would never have imagined that the average price of gasoline would go from .19/gallon to $4/gallon. The cell phone, computer, internet, and related technology never crossed our minds, but today they blow my mind. Change has always happened and always will. But thankfully, some things never change – like the joy of spending time with old friends. Our memories of growing up will not change. We can recall the era before the Internet when we saw shapes in the clouds, chased lightning bugs, survived sandstorms and droughts, and never worried about drive-by shootings or being mugged at school. The ones who came before us were too old to enjoy teenage years like ours, and those who followed were not fortunate enough to experience these more pleasant, simpler times. The era from 1946-1958 was a period of special vintage. People just seemed happier then. This was our time! We will never know where we would be if our paths had never crossed. But we know our life journey has been much better because our paths did cross. This is why we dedicate a period of 48 hours to gather and celebrate these life experiences and special memories. Through our presence and conversations we say, “Thank you for being a friend – someone I will never forget. Thanks for the memories!” The SHS Class of 1958 will gather on July 11-12 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our graduation. Yes, some things change; some things don’t. Our age and appearance have changed, but the joy of our SHS friendships has not. See you at our 50th Reunion.
