MY FRIEND JOE
MY FRIEND JOE
I thought I knew you, Jesus, many years ago.
But I didn't really know you,
Wouldn't let you save my soul.
And I may have never met you,
In your love, may not have grown.
So Lord, I want to thank you for lovin' my friend, Joe.
Joe, he introduced us, in a church just down the block.
Helped me take this life I made of sand and built it on a Rock.
Introduced me to your Spirit, in Your word he helped me grow.
So Lord I want to thank you, for lovin my friend Joe.
Lord I want to thank you, for lovin my friend Joe.
For sending him to guide me, so very long ago.
He fulfilled the call you gave him, persevered until the end.
And brought this sinful, useless man to the arms of your dear son.
He laughed with me in blessings, prayed with me in tears.
And he taught me how to trust you, and how you will always hear.
And dear Lord you know how it hurt's me, that my friend he had to go.
But Lord I want to thank you, for loving my friend Joe.
Early Sunday morning, said good-bye to my old friend.
Here upon this Earth we live in, every life must have an end.
Though I grieve the loss of friendship, Lord I know where he will go.
