This website is dedicated to sharing ideas & information about alternative living arrangements for people with autism.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Autism Community web page is to exchange information, resources & ideas specifically related to setting goals and planning for the future of people with autism who are in need of "assisted living" or who are otherwise unable to live independently. All visitors are invited to exchange their thoughts & concerns relevant to our theme. There are several ways that members can exchange information: via email, the Message Board, the Chat Room, or by submitting an article for the website.

The format of this website assumes that visitors have a basic knowledge of autism. The type of information typically found on autism websites isn't covered here because there are already many nice websites that have done a great job explaining what autism is and covering various treatment modalities. This website attempts to provide a different perspective, focusing on planning for the future of autistic people and housing alternatives.

MEMBERS:

Some of the things planned for members of this site include -

A Member Directory of all interested members along with a photo of yourself or your autistic child and/or a family photo (whichever applies). See the Join List button at the bottom of this page to become a member.

Articles of interest written by and for members of this website. All members are welcome to submit articles on topics relevant to the theme of the website (as described in the paragraph titled "Purpose"). Articles are needed on related topics, such as, "How to Write a Grant Proposal", "How to Form a Non-Profit Organization", "Private Funding versus Government Funding", etc. These are just a few examples. Submit your ideas via email to Raynmom.

A Chat Room where members can meet to discuss the concept of an "Autism Community", as well as other alternative living arrangements for adults with autism, goal setting & planning. Please read the instructions before trying to register or enter the chat room. The chat room is set up to display "thumbnail" images (small photos) of members as they enter the chat room. You must register the first time you visit the chat room. After that, you simply login to enter. If you have trouble getting in the chat room, review the instructions for help. If you still need help, email me.

A Message Board where members can voice their opinions about living arrangements, suggest topics for our weekly chat, or leave messages for other members to contact them or meet them in the chat room.

Monthly Newsletter via email includes notification of chat schedule & website updates for members only. Summary of new items of interest added to the website, introduction of new members and announcement of upcoming events and websites of interest.
