Pruning Trees Near Electric Utility Lines: A Field Pocket Guide for Qualified Line-Clearance Tree Workers by Alex Shigo is a good field reference. This small, information filled book covers proper pruning, how to deal with previously topped trees, and his concept of 90 percent of the time, removing 3 branches will give 90 percent of the clearance. The National Arbor Day Foundation has established this book as the base pruning guideline for Tree Line USA companies.
