My Kraushaar/Haushalter Ancestors I will now give you the history of my mother, Lovie Katherine (Kraushaar) Westfall's ancestors.
My mother's father was Charles Kraushaar born
4-4-1875 on a farm near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. He died
11-23-1948 in Jerseyville, IL. He was a farmer. He
married Caroline Haushalter 4-14-1898 in Jersey County, IL. She was the daughter of George and
Margaret Schiller Haushalter. She was born 4-14-1881
on a farm near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and died 4-27-1937 in
Jerseyville, IL. They had 4 children--my
mother Lovie Kraushaar, Elizabeth Kraushaar, Freda Kraushaar, and Raymond Kraushaar. My mother's grandfather on her father's side Frank Kraushaar was born in about 1836 in Germany. He died about 1879 on his farm near Fieldon, IL. He married Julia Anna Albert born in about 1842 in Germany. She died about 1900 on farm near Fieldon, IL. They had 9 children--my mother's father Charles Kraushaar, Joe Kraushaar, Frank Kraushaar, John Kraushaar, Anna Kraushaar, Rosa Kraushaar, Mary C. Kraushaar, Josephine Kraushaar, and Elizabeth Kraushaar. After my great grandfather Frank Kraushaar Sr's death his wife Julia (Albert) Kraushaar remarried to William Weisner 5-19-1881 and they had 2 daughters, half sisters to my mother's father, Catherine Weisner and Lena Weisner. My mother's grandfather on her mother's side was George John Haushalter born in 1842 in Missouri. He died about 1881 on his farm near Fieldon, IL. Some old census records show his name as John George Haushalter and other census records show his name as George John Haushalter. His wife's obituary has his name as George Haushalter, so I have decided to use George John Haushalter here as the name he went by. He was married to Margaret Schiller born in 1844 in Germany. She died in 1926 in Jerseyville, IL. They had 9 children--My mother's mother Caroline Haushalter, Elizabeth Haushalter, Katherine (Kate) Haushalter, John Haushalter, and George Haushalter, Fredric Haushalter, Henry Haushalter, Louis Haushalter, and William Haushalter. (1.) My mother's grandfather was Frank Kraushaar, date of birth about 1836, died Sept. 1879. He immigrated from Germany to America. He married Julia Anna Albert. She died about 1900. They are buried in Fieldon Cemetery. (2.) Charles Kraushaar my mother's father (4-4-1875-11-23-1948) married Caroline Haushalter 4-14-1898, the daughter of George and Margaret Schiller Haushalter, married in 1866. My mother's father George John Haushalter died about 1881. He was born in 1842 in Missouri. His parents were born in France. George John Haushalter's parents were Johann/Jean/John George and Eva Magdalena/Madeleine Haushalter, and his grandparents were George/Jean "Martin" Haushalter and Marie "Margaretha/Marguerite" (Sturm) Haushalter from Niederbetschdorf (Betschdorf), Elsass, France. Margaret remarried to George Meyer 7-12-1885 in Jersey County, IL. George Meyer and her had no children together. She was born 1844 in Bavaria, and died 4-12-1926 in Jerseyville. She was invalid in wheelchair in later years. (3.) My Mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall was a third generation American. My mother's oldest sister Elizabeth M. Kraushaar was born 4-12-1899 near Fieldon, Jersey County, and died 9-29-1976 at Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly, Iowa. She married John P. Horn 1-1-1920. He was the son of Philip and Emma (Doll) Horn. John Horn was born 4-8-1896 in East Saint Louis, St. Clair County, IL. He died 2-6-1981 in Waverly, Iowa. He was in the Military Service in the U. S. Army and was a World War I Veteran. John Horn's father Philip Horn was born in Germany 6-14-1865, and died 12-28-1927 in East Saint Louis, IL. He was a stone mason. John Horn's mother Emma (Doll) Horn was from Lebanon, IL. She died in 1898 shortly after the birth of John's brother George Horn. John and Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Horn had one daughter, Mary Alice Horn born 3-31-1929 in East St. Louis, St. Clair County, IL, and died 10-27-2008 at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, IA. Her burial was in Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, in Waterloo, IA. Mary Alice Horn married Earl H. Gibson June 13, 1947. He was born December 23, 1921, in East St. Louis, St. Clair County, Illinois, the son of Earl H. and Agnes E. (Martin) Gibson Sr. He died June 24, 1993 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA. His burial was in Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, in Waterloo, IA. He farmed in Iowa. He was also in the Military Service and was a U. S. Air Force Veteran. Earl and Mary (Horn) Gibson had 9 children-Mona Gibson, Stuart Gibson, Laura Gibson, Duane (Buck) Gibson, Wylene Gibson, Peggy Gibson, Karen Gibson, Kent Gibson, and Brad Gibson. Uncle John and Aunt Elizabeth lived in Caseyville, IL, and he worked at a steel mill in St. Louis, MO, and they later retired in Iowa near their daughter Mary and family. ------------- My mother's other sister Freda E. Kraushaar was born 1-13-1902 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and she died 3-16-1946 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton, Madison County, IL. She died of cancer at the age of 44. Aunt Freda married William A. Hewitt 9-7-1922 in Jersey County, IL. William A. Hewitt was the son of John and Mary (McManus) Hewitt. He was born 5-5-1884 in Jersey County, IL, and died 5-12-1936 in Jersey County, IL. They had 2 children-Helen K. Hewitt and William A. Hewitt Jr. William and Freda (Kraushaar) Hewitt's daughter Helen Katherine Hewitt was born 10-23-1925 in the Union Forest area, Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL. She died 2-22-1974 at Jersey Community Hospital, Jerseyville, IL. She married James William Wahl 2-8-1947 in Jersey County, IL. He was born 3-28-1922 in Jerseyville, Jersey County, IL, and he died 9-14-1990 at his residence at Bee Creek near Pearl, Pike County, IL. He was the son of James Francis Wahl and Nora (Murphy) Wahl. He was in the Military Service in the U. S. Army and was a World War II Veteran. James William Wahl and helen (Hewitt) Wahl had 4 sons-James Wahl, Alan Wahl, Richard Wahl, and Robert Wahl, and a daughter Pamela Wahl. Helen's second husband was E. J. Simpson. James wahl married second to the former Lola I. Lowe 7-23-1973, the daughter of Charles and Cecelia (Cope) Lowe. Lola had been married before and had a son Gene Uphold of Pittsfield, IL, and a daughter Joyce (Lowe) Herron of Mitchell, IL. William and Freda (Kraushaar) Hewitt's son William A. Hewitt Jr. died of cancer 2-10-1985 in Tampa, Florida. He was born 11-29-1930 in the Union Forest area, Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL. He was in the Military Service and was a U. S. Army Korean War Veteran. He married Dolores Falloyat. William and Dolores (Falloyat) Hewitt had 4 children-William (Willy) Hewitt, Robert Hewitt, Rebecca Hewitt, and Lisa Hewitt. He worked on the railroad. After William Hewitt's death his wife Dolores remarried to Rev. Patrick Malcor. He died in 2005. Dolores now lives in New Port Richey, Florida. -------------- My mother's younger brother Raymond Charles Kraushaar was born 11-22-1906 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and he died 11-15-1975 at Jersey Community Hospital, Jersey County, IL. He had 2 sons-Clifford Kraushaar from his first wife Evelyn Young and Victor Kraushaar from his second wife Mildred Adams, the daughter of Willis and Ann (Taylor) Adams. Evelyn (Young) Kraushaar was born 1-16-1909 in Greene County, IL, the daughter of Phillip and Stella May (Hunt) Young. She died 10-12-1991 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, Madison County, IL. Her burial was at Kane Cemetery. Raymond Kraushaar's second wife Mildred (Adams) Kraushaar was born in Chesterfield, IL Oct. 1, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Mahala "Ann" (Taylor) Adams. She died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville, IL. Her burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. My Uncle Raymond Kraushaar worked at a grain elevator in Jerseyville, IL. His son Clifford Kraushaar also worked there until he retired in 1995. Raymond and Evelyn (Young) Kraushaar's son Clifford Kraushaar married the former Marilyn Baker 11-12-1955 in Jersey County, IL and they have 7 children. He lives in Otterville, IL. Raymond and Mildred (Adams) Kraushaar's son Victor C. Kraushaar is married to Janet and has 2 children-Nancy J. Kraushaar, and Vickie Kraushaar. Victor and Janet Kraushaar's daughter Nancy J. Kraushaar married Carl Wayne Clifford, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milburn Clifford of Carrollton, IL. Carl Wayne Clifford and Nancy J. (Kraushaar) Clifford have 3 children, David Clifford, Jeremy Clifford, and Dylan Clifford. Victor and Janet Kraushaar's daughter Vickie Kraushaar married Ty Johnson of Jerseyville, IL and they have a son Tyler Johnson. Victor Kraushaar and his wife Janet live in Jerseyville, IL and he works at a steel mill in Alton, IL. My mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall's father was Charles Kraushaar born 7-12-1875 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and died 11-23-1948 at his residence in Jerseyville, Jersey County, IL. He had 3 brothers and 7 sisters-Joseph Kraushaar, Frank Kraushaar, John Kraushaar, Anna Kraushaar, Rosa Kraushaar, Mary C. Kraushaar, Josephine Kraushaar, Elizabeth Kraushaar, and 2 half sisters, Catherine Weisner and Lena Weisner. ------------ My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's brother Joseph Kraushaar was born in 1866 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. He died in Feb. 1928 in Jersey County, IL. He farmed in the Fieldon, IL area. He married Christina Martin 6-22-1888 in Jersey County, IL. She was born in 1866, and died in 1928 in Jersey County, IL. They had 12 children-Otto Kraushaar, Fred Kraushaar, Chris Kraushaar, Clarence Kraushaar, Herbert Kraushaar, Charles Kraushaar, Elizabeth Kraushaar, Inas Kraushaar, Katie Kraushaar, Julia Kraushaar, Josephine Kraushaar, and Anna Kraushaar. Joseph Kraushaar and his wife Christina are buried in the Fieldon Cemetery. -------------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's brother Frank Kraushaar was born in 1865 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. He died in 1937 in Jersey County, IL. He farmed in the Fieldon, IL area and was married first to Ida Houseman and they had 4 children-William Kraushaar, Lou Kraushaar, Henry Edward Kraushaar, and Gussie Kraushaar, and later Frank Kraushaar married Nora Westfall (1887-1944). They married 10-13-1905 in Jersey County, IL. (my father's half sister) and they had 3 children-Leo Kraushaar, Frank (Frankie) Kraushaar, and Frances Kraushaar. ------------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's other brother John Kraushaar was born in 1862 and died 3-22-1930. He was born near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. He died in Jersey County, IL. He never married and lived in Jerseville, IL. He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery near Fieldon, IL. --------------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's sister Anna Kraushaar was born in 1877 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and she died in 1960 in Jerseyville, Il. She married 1-7-1919 John Carroll. He was born in 1879, and died in 1938 in Jerseyville, IL. They had no children. They both worked at a shoe factory in Jerseyville. They are both buried in St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville. ----------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's sister Rosa Kraushaar was born 6-17-1860 near Fieldon in Jersey County, IL, and died 6-11-1928 in Jersey County, IL. She married Bernard F. Freand 11-19-1879 in Jersey County, IL. He was born 8-5-1857, and died 5-31-1930 in Jersey County, IL. They lived in the Fieldon, IL area. They had 10 children-Wilhelmena Freand, John Freand, Henry Freand, Lewis Freand, Viola Freand, Anna Freand, Clara Margaret Freand, Fannie Freand, Mary Freand, and Elizabeth Freand. They are both buried in Lax Cemetery in English Township. ---------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's sister Mary C. Kraushaar was born 3-23-1870, died 4-29-1956. She married John H. Dunham 2-17-1918. He was born in 1868, died 3-14-1920. Both were born and died in Jersey County, IL. They are both buried in the Fieldon Cemetery. I don't know how many children they had or the names of their children, but her obituary said she was survived by 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. -------------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's sister Josephine Kraushaar was born in 1873. She married Albert V. Hughes 7-10-1892. I don't have any other information about Josephine. --------------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's sister Elizabeth (Lizzie) Kraushaar was born in 1868. She may have never married. I don't have any other information about Elizabeth. --------------- My mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall's grandfather Frank Kraushaar Sr. (1836-1879) committed suicide in Sept. 1879 at the age of 43, when her father Charles Kraushaar was only 4. His wife and children found his body in the woods on their farm after he hadn't come home for several days. My mother's grandmother Julia (Albert) Kraushaar remarried to William Weisner 5-19-1881 after her first husband Frank Kraushaar Sr's death. They had 2 daughters-Catherine Weisner and Lena Weisner. She died a few years before my mother was born of breast cancer my mother told me. My mother was born in 1904, so her grandmother must have died about 1900. My mother didn't mention knowing of her grandmother's remarriage. --------------------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's half sister Catherine (Kate) Weisner was born in 1881 and died 10-26-1937. She was the daughter of William and Julia (Albert) Kraushaar Weisner. Catherine Weisner was born near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and died in Jerseyville. She married first Asa N. Norris. He died in 1904 at age 28 of Typhoid Fever at his home near Fieldon, IL. They had 2 daughters-Christine and Anna. After her first husband Asa Norris's death Catherine married Henry Albert Shults who was born 2-4-1869, and died 12-31-1954. They had a son William Henry Shults who married Ethel Mae Boomer and they had 2 daughters-Patricia Shults and Shirley Shults. Their son William Henry Shults died in 1974. Catherine and Henry Albert Shults also had twin daughters who died in infancy, Marie Florence Shults and Maurita Fay Shults. Henry Albert Shults and Catherine (Weisner) Norris Shults are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. -------------- My grandfather Charles Kraushaar's half sister Lena Weisner was born near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. She was the daughter of William and Julia (Albert) Kraushaar Weisner. She married George Devening 2-10-1903. They had a son Pearl Devening. -------------------- For more information about other related Kraushaar families go to-Related Families-Page 2 My mother Lovie said her father Charles Kraushaar, who was a farmer, often plowed late into the night with a lantern tied to his horses harness. As a girl my mother said she helped her father saw wood with a crosscut saw. Her father always wanted her to help him saw, because he said she was the best at helping him saw. My mother Lovie said her mother told her father she couldn't work in the house and do outside farm work too, so my mother and her sisters' Elizabeth and Freda, and her brother Raymond helped him with the farm work. Lovie said her mother did a lot of canning of fruits and vegetables, and made their dresses. My mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall's mother was Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar, the daughter of George and Margaret (Schiller) Haushalter. She was born 7-14-1881 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and died 7-27-1937 at her residence in Jerseyville, Jersey County, IL. She had 6 brothers-John Adam (Edward) Haushalter, George Haushalter, Fredric Haushalter, Henry Haushalter, Louis Haushalter, and William Haushalter, and 2 sisters-Katherine (Kate) Haushalter and Elizabeth Haushalter. My grandmother Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar's brother was John Adam (Edward) Haushalter-my mother called him Uncle Ed) Haushalter was born 3-28-1871 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. He died 10-13-1956 in Jersey County, IL. He farmed in the Jerseyville area and married Josephine Springman 9-12-1895 in Jersey County, IL. They had 7 children-George Haushalter, Ernest Haushalter, Carl Haushalter, Lena Haushalter, Edna Haushalter, Clara Haushalter and Elma Haushalter -------------- My grandmother Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar's brother George Haushalter was born in 1868 near Fieldon in Jersey County, IL. He lived in Jerseyville, IL and later lived in St. Louis, Missouri. He was married to Sophia Schmidt. She was born in 1865 and died 4-11-1914. She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. They had 6 children-Edward Haushalter, Louis (Buddy) Haushalter, Gertrude Haushalter, Pauline Haushalter, Irene Haushalter, and Cornelia E. Haushalter who married Ernest Henry Grote 11-6-1915. I have no other information about their families. ------------------ My grandmother Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar's brothers Fredric Haushalter, Henry Haushalter, Louis Haushalter, and William Haushalter all died young. Her brother Fredric Haushalter born in 1869 died before 1880. Her brother Henry Haushalter born in 1878, died in 1881. Her brothers Louis Haushalter and William Haushalter (twins) died in 1880 in infancy. -------------- My grandmother Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar's sister Katherine (Kate) Haushalter was born in 1873 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. She died in 1947 in St. Louis, MO. She married first Henry Groppel 2-22-1890, and they had 3 daughters-Augusta (Gussie) Groppel (1892-1981), Margaret Catherine Groppel (Maggie) (twin to Gussie)-(Maggie died 9-14-1906 at age 15 of consumption), and Frances Groppel (1896-1970). After her first husband died Kate Haushalter married Phillip Horn 3-16-1901, and they had 2 sons-Arthur Horn and Phillip Horn. Kate's husband Phillip Horn had been married before to Emma Doll and had 2 sons from his first wife-John Horn who later married my mother's sister Elizabeth Kraushaar and also a son George Horn. --------------- My grandmother Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar's other sister Elizabeth Haushalter was never married. She was born 6-4-1875 near Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. She died 11-11-1961 in Collinsville, Madison County, IL. She worked as a housekeeper in St. Louis. She stayed with my parent's and I on our farm at times in later years after she retired. {Found Online: my mother's Aunt Elizabeth Haushalter from 1920 U.S. Census worked as a live-in cook and housekeeper for Mr. & Mrs. Edward (Belle) Pryor in St. Louis.} --------------------- For more information about other related Haushalter families go to-Related Families-Page 3 My mother's grandfather on her mother's side George John Haushalter was born in MO in 1842, and died in 1881 in Jersey County, IL of pneumonia when her mother was a baby. My mother's grandmother Margaret Schiller Haushalter ran the farm and cared for children alone until in 1885 she remarried to George Meyer and they later moved to Jerseyville where he worked on railroad. She was invalid in later years and George Meyer cared for her until her death 4-12-1926. He died 1935. They are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. My mother's parents moved to Jerseyville in later years and bought several acres in NW part of town. My mother's brother Raymond Kraushaar later built a new house on the property. My mother's mother, my grandmother Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar died first in 1937 in Jerseyville, IL of heart problems, and she also had an enlarged thyroid condition or goiter. My mother's father, my grandfather Charles Kraushaar died in 1948 in Jerseyville, IL. My mother's parents are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, Illinois.
