The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated with me in 1961 from Jersey Community High School, Kenneth Young, Jr.'s father Kenneth L. Young.

Died 10-05-1983. Kenneth L. Young, 56, Rural Route 2, Godfrey, died at 12:30 pm May 10 at Christian Northwest Hospital, in Florissant, Missouri. He was born September 25, 1926, in Jersey County, the son of Blanche (Hutchinson) Young of Jerseyville and the late Walter A. Young. He married Dorothy Groves in 1948 in Jerseyville. Young retired from Laclede Steel in 1975. He is survived by his wife, mother 2 sons, Kenneth Young, Jr. of Godfrey and Kevin at home; 4 daughters, Patricia Young, and Carol McCoy of Grafton, Karen Freeman of Jerseyville and Barbara Young of Dow; and 5 grandchildren. Also surviving are 8 Sisters, Bernice Hazelwood, Shirley Carter and Lois Fitzgibbons, all of Jerseyville, Alice Baker of Alton, Marie Cumby of Jacksonville, Judy Saragosa of Wood River, Sylvia Carter of Mt. Olive and Eileen McKelvey of Cahokia. He was preceded in death by his father and 1 brother. Funeral services were held at 10 am May 14 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William Turner of Assembly of God church, Newbern, officiated, with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated high school with me from Jersey Community High School in 1961, my cousin, Virgil Griffin's sister Geneva Ruth McClintock.

Geneva Ruth McClintock, 69, died at 2:17 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis. Born March 23, 1937, in Fieldon, she was the daughter of Wesley Charles Griffin and Anna (Westfall) Griffin Coleman. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Church in Jerseyville. Survivors include one son, John McClintock Sr. of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, John McClintock Jr. of Moline, Ill., and Erikia, Lance and Alex McClintock, all of Jerseyville; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Riley and Chloe McClintock; and one sister, Eunice Fugett of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Norma Jean Griffin and Viola Godar; and three brothers, Virgil, Melvin and Harold Griffin. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. William Hembrow will officiate. Burial will be at Grimes-Neely Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated high school with me from Jersey Community High School in 1961, Patricia Marie (Maness) Cummings's brother Frank Maness.

Frank Maness, 55, died at 9:09 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at his home. He was born Dec. 5, 1952, in Alton to Henry "Bud" and Vernadean (Wolfe) Maness. He had worked at Olin in East Alton for 30 years. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and George Cummings of Dow; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Linda Maness of Bethalto, Gary and Bertha Maness of Wildwood, Fla., and Donald and Chris Maness of Jerseyville; and several beloved nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Jon Lorch will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jerseyville Public Library.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated high school with me from Jersey Community High School in 1961, Joan (Margeson) Brannan's father Jesse Leon Margeson.

Died 17-05-1974. Funeral services for Jesse Leon Margeson, 72, a resident in the Kane area for the past 30 years, were held Sunday afternoon, May 19, at hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. He died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, may 17, at the Boyd Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for the past four days. His death followed an extended illness. The Rev. Chester Sutton of Jerseyville officiated and interment was in the Jalappa cemetery near Kane. Mr. Margeson had worked at McDonnel-Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis for 13 years and also a retired farmer. He was born in Lawton, Iowa, January 12, 1902, the son of the late George and Eva Garlow Margeson. He married the former Hazel Daniels in 1922 in Maquoketa, Iowa. His survivors are his wife, Hazel; four daughters, Mrs. Leo (Lola) Abbott of Kane, Mrs. Garnett (Margaret) Lamb of Hamel, Mrs. Ronald (Joann) Byland, Carrollton, Mrs. L. W. (Joan) Brannan of Jacksonville; two sons Marvin of Jerseyville, and Darriell of Carrollton; 24 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Oley of Maquoketa, Iowa; and two sister, Mrs. Howard McCutcheon of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Mrs. Margaret Stevens of Monterey Park, California. His parents, two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Crull and Myrtle Margeson, one sister and five brothers preceded him in death. The American Cancer society has been designated as a memorial.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated high school with me from Jersey Community High School in 1961, Robert Halter's mother Mary Eva (Walz) Halter.

Mary Eva Halter, 85, died at 10:35 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Willow Rose Rehabilitation and Health Care in Jerseyville. She was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Jersey County, daughter of Fred J. and Alta (Simons) Walz. Her marriage to Cornelius Halter took place Sept. 3, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo. He died Aug. 6, 1973. A lifelong resident of Jersey County, she was very proud of her 34 years of dedicated service to Jersey Community Hospital, where she was a nurse's assistant in their obstetrics department. She took great pride in presenting many newborn babies to their proud parents. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Joann and Harold Koenig of Jerseyville; a son-in-law, Raymond Hess of Genoa, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Halter of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Halter; a daughter, Janet Hess; two grandchildren, Douglas Halter and Laura Koenig; a great-grandson, Anthony Joseph Larson; a brother, Fred Walz; three sisters, Nellie Isringhausen, Balbina Tohill and Irene Ewin; and two half sisters, Minnie Holtmann and Katherine Rice. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, where she was a member. The Rev. Ed Campbell will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the Peace United Church of Christ or VNA TIP Hospice.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Guy Devening's father Edwin "E. T" Devening.

Edwin "E. T." Devening, 75, died October 23, 1983 at Christian hospital ne in St. Louis. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Robert Broeder officiated and burial was in Gunterman cemetery. Born September 14, 1908 in Hardin, he was a son of the late Lee & Catherine (Hamilton) Devening and was a farmer and trustee of Gunterman cemetery. His survivors include 1 son, Guy Devening of Fieldon; 3 daughters, Marie Jackson, Medora, Katherine Wessel, Fieldon; and 2 sisters, Hazel Devening and Margaret Hagen, both of Fieldon; 13 grandchildren. His wife, Minnie Hagen, died November 15, 1982. Masonic services were conducted by Fieldon Lodge. Memorials may be given to Gunterman cemetery.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, a daughter of my mother's cousin William Henry Shults., Patricia Louise (Shults) Rench's mother Ethel M. (Boomer) Shults McGowen.

Ethel M. (Boomer) McGowen, 82, died at 5:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. She was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Jersey County to Roy and Delia Ione (Gettings) Boomer. She married William Henry Shults Oct. 10, 1935, in Jerseyville. He died in November 1974. She married Walter E. McGowen Oct. 20, 1978, in Jerseyville. He survives. A homemaker, she was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville. In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter and her husband, Pat and Jim Rench of Jerseyville; three stepsons and their wives, Gene and Becky McGowen of Brighton, Mike McGowen and Tim and Tonya McGowen, all of Jerseyville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and four sisters and their husbands, Violet and Wilbert Fraley, Inez and Joe French, Naomi and Charles Webster, all of Jerseyville, and Eva McIntire of Rosewood Heights. Besides her parents and first husband, preceding her in death was a daughter, Shirley Schnieder. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Wilbur Cain officiated. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to Charity Christian Church Building Fund, Alzheimer's Disease Research or Peace United Church of Christ.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated with me in 1961 from Jersey Community High School, who's father married my sister's husband Joseph Alben's sister the former Josephine Alben, Carole Lee Mayhall's father Amiel Mayhall.

Amiel Mayhall, 89, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at his home. He was born March 19, 1912, in Chautauqua, a son of the late James Henry and Laura Ann (Brown) Mayhall. A lifelong resident of Fern Glen Valley, he recently moved to Jerseyville because of his ill health. A pipefitter by trade, he began working at Shell Oil Co., where he remained for 19 years, until he began working on construction as a pipefitter with Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local No. 553, of which he was a 65-year member. He married the former Josephine Alben Oct. 17, 1936, in Alton. She survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Christine Phillips of Godfrey and Gene and Maggie Mayhall of Granite City; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sonya and Gary Whyte of Godfrey, Barbara and Ronald Short of Jerseyville, Carole Mayhall of St. Louis and Alyce and William Gibbs of Del Mar, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Henry J. and Alyce Mayhall of Manchester, Mo. He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Richard and George; two sisters, Cora Ince and Bessie Chadderton; and three brothers, Harold Mayhall, Lawrence Mayhall and James Henry Mayhall. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. David McElwain will offficiate. He will be laid to rest in Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society-Jersey County Relay for Life.

The obituary of a relative of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Robert Pruitt and Joseph Pruitt's mother Jessie W. (Tozer) Pruitt.

1985: Fieldon - Jessie W. Pruitt, 60, died at 5:35 am today 25 September 1985 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis. She was born 13 February 1925 in Petersburg, a daughter of Alice (Rogers) Tozer of Carrollton and the late James Tozer. On 11 April 1944 in Phoenix City, Alabama, she married Leo "Cotton" Pruitt who survives. She was a member of the Business Booster Club of Fieldon and Jerseyville Eagles' Auxiliary. In addition to her husband Leo of Fieldon and mother Alice Tozer of Carrollton, surviving are two sons, Robert and Joseph, both of Godfrey; four grandchildren; one brother, Charles Tozer of Carrollton; and two sisters, Alice Pegram and Loraine Schofield, both of Carrollton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm Wednesday at Jacoby brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where services will be conducted at 1:30 pm. Thursday with the Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiating. Burial will be in Fieldon cemetery.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, a granddaughter of my mother's cousin Josephine (Kraushaar) Maltimore, Carrie Sue (maltimore) Stephen's father Joseph Maltimore.

Died 20-07-1979. Services for Joseph Maltimore, 60, of Route 3 Jerseyville were conducted Sunday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home by the Rev. R. E. George. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. His death occurred at 2:45 p.m. July 20 at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Granite City. Born in Greene County November 24, 1918, he was a son of Edward and Josephine Kraushaar Maltimore. Maltimore was employed at Laclede Steel and was a World War II veteran. His survivors are his wife, Evelyn; his mother, three Sons, Gilbert of Greenfield, Howard of Fieldon and Larry of Alton; three Daughters, Mary Lou Baker and Carrie Stephens of Jerseyville and Linda Pilger of Godfrey; one brother, Perry of Jerseyville; three Sisters, Mary Foster and Bonita Sherman, both of Jerseyville and Opal Kruckerburg of Godfrey; 10 grandchildren. A daughter, Joann Maltimore, preceded him in death.

Arthur E. Tucker, 75, died at 5:29 pm Sunday, April 1, 1990, at Jersey Community hospital. He was a construction laborer with Local 646. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late James & Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Tucker. Surviving are 3 daughters, Beth Fry of Delhi, Carmen Woodring of Fidelity and Kathy Plough of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Eva Dunsin of Jerseyville; and 1 brother, Howard Tucker of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were 1 son, Arthur L. Tucker; 1 grandson; 2 brothers, Jerome and Alfred Tucker; and 1 sister, Jesse Cope. Services are at 2 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. Richard George officiating. Burial is in Grimes cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Church of the Nazarene of Jerseyville.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Vincent Edward Heitzig's mother Doris Lee (Long) Heitzig.

Doris Lee Heitzig, 75, died at 2 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born March 31, 1925, in Jerseyville, the daughter of Hazel (Mourning) Davis of Jerseyville, and the late Thomas Long. For many years, she lived on their farm near Fieldon, where she assisted on the farm and raised her family of five children alongside her husband, Vincent Heitzig, whom she married Dec. 27, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon. She lived on the farm until his death March 28, 1988, and moved to town shortly thereafter. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Vincent Edward and Judy Heitzig of Jerseyville, Debbie and Terry Drainer of Roselle, BeBe and Mike Hodge of South Lake, Texas, Dennis Heitzig of St. Louis and Dianna and Rick Bain of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard Long of California. She is also survived by her care giver who became her dear friend, Mary Sterling. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon. The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, a grandson of my mother's cousin Clarence Kraushaar., Sherman Kraushaar Jr.'s father Sherman Lee Kraushaar Sr.

Sherman Lee Kraushaar, 95, died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. Born Sept. 24, 1911, in Fieldon, he was one of four children of Clarence and Charlotte "Lottie" (Atwood) Kraushaar. He served with the U.S. Army for several years, serving in Iran, and retired in 1973 from Olin Corp. in East Alton after 21 years of service. He married the former Rosaella Vinyard on Jan. 12, 1946, in Jerseyville, and they shared 60 years together before her death on July 28, 2006. Surviving are a son, Sherman Kraushaar of Jerseyville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Kinder of Golden Eagle; Shirley Davidsmeyer of Carrollton and Connie and Joe Pruitt of Godfrey; a son-in-law, Robert Pruitt of Godfrey; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kay (Kraushaar) Pruitt, on June 20, 2006; and three sisters, Beulah Delp, Myrtle Delp and Mary Lyles. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military rites. Memorials may be given to the firing squad of the Jerseyville American Legion.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Joann (Schaaf) Cunningham's mother Cora A. (Legate) Schaaf.

Cora A. Schaaf, 88, died at 12:44 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007, at Willow Rose Rehabilitation and Health Care in Jerseyville. She was born in Grafton on Nov. 21, 1918, one of nine children born to the late Harry and Alma (Suddeth) Legate. She married William C. Schaaf on Dec. 2, 1936, in Jerseyville, and the two farmed for many years before moving into Jerseyville in 1961. She then began working at several restaurants, including Walkers Five and Dime and Sav-Mor. The couple shared nearly 57 years together before his death on July 13, 1993. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Edgar Short and Joann and Paul Cunningham, all of Jerseyville; three grandchildren and their spouses, Martin and Cathy Short, Terry and Carolyn Short and Cynthia Stamper, all of Jerseyville; great-grandchildren, Eric, Zachary, Travis and Faith Short and Corey and Codey Stamper; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was an infant son; a granddaughter, Denise Cunningham; a grandson-in-law, Avery "Curt" Stamper; and eight siblings. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Doug Haynes will officiate. The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Charles Schaaf's mother Cora Alice (Ford) Schaaf Varble.

Cora Alice Schaaf Varble, 86, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Kane, the daughter of Louis and Nettie (Dunham) Ford. She married Julius "Dude" Schaaf of Fieldon and together they were the parents of 10 children before their eventual divorce. After the divorce, she operated a restaurant in Fieldon and was a nurse's aide at Garnet's Chateau. She met Glen G. Varble and the two later married on Dec. 18, 1975, in Alton. After their marriage, they moved to Pearl, where she began working at Brown Shoe Company and later as a nurse's aide at the Community Care Center, both in Pittsfield. Her husband's declining health forced her to retire and he passed away Jan. 15, 1994, after 18 happy years of a happy marriage. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Joe Roth of Fieldon and Carol and Jeff Barnett of Mount Sterling, Ill.; six sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Schaaf of Cottage Hills, Robert and Carolyn Schaaf and Kenneth W. "Bill" and Alice Schaaf, all of Jerseyville, Charles and Edna Schaaf, Donald and Barbara Schaaf, all of Fieldon, and Jim and Marcia Schaaf of Griggsville, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William "Woody" Ford of Kane and Wilbert Ford of Springfield, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant children; a daughter-in-law, Marge Schaaf; three brothers, Henry, Ernest and Winslin Ford; and two sisters, Frances Wilson and Edna Pickett. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Barbara Alley will conduct services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3. Died 01-21-1970. Charles William Russell, 80, of Jerseyville died January 21, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where visitation was held Friday pm. Rev. Roy Hill of Gillespie officiated at the rites. A retired farmer, he was born July 5, 1889 in Oswego, KS, the son of Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Minard?) Russell; 5 sons, John of Hettick, Clarence of Kane, Alfred, Charles and Donald of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Leona Strebel of Jerseyville and Mrs. Esther Branham of Delhi; 24 grandchildren; 7 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Paul Russell of Carrollton and Harold Russell of Jerseyville; and 1 sister Mrs. Pearl McGowen, also of Jerseyville. 2 sons preceded him in death.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Mary (Ayres) Cresswell's brother Everett Zadock Ayres.

Everett Zadock Ayres, 72, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center in Belleville. He was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Otterville, a son of the late Ernest and Freda (McCoy) Ayres. For 30 years he worked on the railroad as a carman and retired from Conrail in 1982. In addition, he also operated a landscaping business in Belleville for many years. As a young man he enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and will be missed by his family as well as friends. He married the former Levetta Weller May 31, 1947, and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Their union brought five children and their spouses, Ernest and Barb Ayres of Jerseyville, Everett and Joyce Ayres of Highland, Margaret and James Keck of Highland, Delbert and Rebecca Ayres of Collinsville and Brenda and Paul Niemaczek of O'Fallon; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Jeanette and Bryan Wildermuth of Highland, Jennifer and Jason Patterson of Bement, Kristina and Andy Cooksey of Highland, Jason and Rebecca Ayres of Godfrey, Joshua and Jennifer Ayres of Edwardsville, Jessica Daniels of Collinsville, Hannah and Matthew McKittrick of Highland, Caleb Ayres of Highland, Jeremiah and Kyle Niemaczek, both of O'Fallon. Otto Henry Kraushaar, 90, of Michael, died Saturday, July 27, 1996 at the home of his son with whom he lived. He was a lifetime farmer, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Born November 19, 1905 in Richwood Township in Jersey County, he was the son of the late Joseph and Christina (Martin) Kraushaar. He married Adaline McCartney May 13, 1924 in Jersey County and she died May 26, 1985. Surviving are three daughters, Mable Dunham of Alton, Virginia Jones of Michael and Judy Byrd of Wood River; one son and daughter-in-law Richard and Rita Kraushaar of Michael; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Irma Rose Kraushaar and Mary Lee Barbary; five brothers, Chris, Charles, Fred, Herb and Clarence Kraushaar; six sisters, Elizabeth Tucker, Inas Gallup, Kate Goshorn, Julie Cross, Anna Mayfield and Josephine Maltimore, and one grandson, Roger Dunham. Visitation was held Sunday at Jacoby Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral was conducted Monday, July 29, 1996 at Jacoby Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. William Hembrow officiating. Westfall took place June 15, 1935, in Jerseyville. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Church in Gillespie and a volunteer at the Gillespie Caring Center. Survivors include seven grandchildren, Dan Brown, Randy Brown, Michael Westfall, Jamie Westfall, Jason Westfall, Brenda, and Donna Palicka; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Lyle Brown. He was a self-employed truck driver for 61 years, served as a school trustee since 1964 and served on the Jerseyville Mutual Insurance board for 21 years. He was a member of Fieldon United Church of Christ since 1926 and Fieldon Masonic Lodge 592. He married Ruby I. Lyles on July 26, 1941, in Elsberry, Mo. She died in August 1994. He and Katherine Bruns-Booth were married on Jan. 24, 1997, in Roxana. She survives. Also surviving are five sons and four daughters-in-law, Maurice B. "MB" and Karen Williams of Carrollton, Merle L. Robert Gilman's mother Naomi (Groppel) Gilman's obituary - Naomi Gilman, 87, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, at her home. Born June 12, 1918, in Fieldon, she was one of three children of Charles H. and Hettie (Isringhausen) Groppel. She married William O. Gilman on Sept. 11, 1940, in Fieldon. They shared 50 years together before his death on Dec. 15, 1990. A lifelong resident of Jersey County, she dedicated herself to her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and spent her adult life caring for her children and assisting her husband on their farm in the Fieldon area. After retirement in 1980, they moved to Jerseyville. Mr & Mrs Warford and daughter, Donna were joined on a vacation to the Ozarks by the couple's son and daughter-in-law, Mr & Mrs James Warford and children. The elder Warford, fell from the cliff while seeking shelter from a rainstorm. Alone at the time, Warford's cries were heard by some men fishing who summoned his son. The injured man was rushed by ambulance to Barnes hospital, where he underwent surgery. He was born in Highbee, Missouri, August 14, 1905, a son of the late William T & Flora Ann (Fowler) Warford. He had been employed at Shell Refinery for the past 30 years, and at the time of death was supervisor of the cracking dept. The family had lived in Jerseyville before moving to their present home. While residing here he was Worshipful Master of Jerseyville Lodge 394, AF & AM. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Irene (Perdun) Warford; a son, James, of the Illinois State Highway Police force; 2 daughters, Mrs Kermit Heid, Champaign and Donna Sue Warford of Grafton; 1 sister, Mrs Ettie Major, and 1 brother, Estelle Warford, both of Higbee, and 5 grandchildren.

Died 22-02-1981. George J Wahle, 79, of Brighton, formerly of White Hall, died February 22 at Lawnwood Medical Center, Ft Pierce, FL while vacationing. Born June 7, 1901 in Otterville, a son of Adolph & Mary Louise (Kirchner) Wahle. Surviving are his wife, Nina Mae (Phipps) Wahle, whom he married June 29, 1933 in Alton; 3 sons, Donald R of Godfrey, Larry of Brighton and Jack of White Hall; 1 daughter, Sharon Wahle of Godfrey; 1 brother, Fred Wahle of Fieldon; 1 sister, Grace German of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were conducted at the funeral home with burial in Noble Cemetery.

A funeral mass was celebrated Friday am at St. Patrick church in Grafton with burial in Scenic Hill cemetery. She was born December 22, 1921 in Richwoods, Missouri, a daughter of Joseph & Frances (Boyer) Declue. Her survivors include her husband, Rolla Rulo whom she married December 12, 1941 in Potosi, Missouri; 8 sons, Rollen, Joe, Kenny, Jerry, Dick, Ronnie and Terry, all of Grafton and Roy of Godfrey; 3 daughters, Charlene Carpenter of Alton, Betty Fry of Wood River and Sharon Lyons of Germany; 21 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Cletus Declue of Richwoods, Missouri and Leonard Declue of Fieldon; 2 sisters, Lena Mayhew of Wood River and Lorene Cain of Fieldon. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, 1 daughter and 1 sister. The rosary was recited Thursday evening at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated high school with me from Jersey Community High School in 1961, June (McIntire) Hayes's stepmother Dollie Marie (Miller) McIntire.

Dollie Marie McIntire, 79, formerly of Jerseyville and Godfrey, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Alton Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her family, after entering a peaceful rest. She was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Enough, Mo., to Charles Marvin and Reau (Evans) Miller. She married Floyd A. McIntire on Aug. 2, 1944, in Jerseyville. He died Feb. 21, 1990. A loving and devoted wife and mother, she was homemaker and farmer and leaves behind many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory. Her legacy is her faith in God and devotion to her children. Surviving are 12 children and their spouses, Lloyd and Denise McIntire of Jackson, Mich., Barbara and John Wiley of Godfrey, Joan McIntire of Albany, Mo., Pat and Joe VanWalleghen of O'Fallon, Mo., Sandy Compton of Alton, Dollie and John Klaas of Kane, Pearl and Terry Fester of Dow, Bessie Walker of Alton, Raymond and Kandy McIntire of Bethalto, Mary J. Johnson of Godfrey, Betty Finch of Wood River and Virginia and Paul Ward of Jerseyville; 34 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, with whom she played a vital role in their lives; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Steve Evancho of Godfrey; and a brother, Dallas Delmar Miller of Delhi. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet; a stepdaughter, June Hayes; a son-in-law, George Johnson; two grandsons, Shannon and Darrell Johnson; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Opal Irene Wells; and five brothers, Carl "Eddie" Miller, Ira "Bill" Miller, Earsie Miller, Loya Miller and an infant. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate. Interment will be beside her husband of 45 years and infant daughter at Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton. Memorials may be given to a church of the donor's choice.

Asher A. Bull, born 1883, Gilead, Greene County, Illinois, died 10-1968, buried Oak Wood cemetery. Asher A Bull, 85 yrs-2 mo-28 days, died at a physicians office where he had been moved by ambulance. The Jerseyville resident was a son of the late George W & Mary (Carrico) Bull. He was born in Gilead. He is survived by his wife, Clara M. Bull; 3 daughters, Mrs. Gus (Mary) Orban of Brighton, Mrs. Ralph (Elizabaeth) Bauser and Mrs. Juitte (Norma) Gill of Alton; 2 sons, Floyd Harold Bull of Jerseyville, and Edward N Bull of Bowling Green, KY; 18 grandchildren; and 17 g-grandchildren. 5 children, Leslie and Rosalie, and 3 infants preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at Gospel Assembly Church. Rev Harry Frazer and Rev. Louis Kappler officiated and burial was in Oak Wood Cemetery (Upper Alton). Louis O. "Louie" Vahle, 67, of rural Jerseyville, died March 10 1987 at John Cochran Veterans' hospital, St. Louis. He was born December 10, 1919 in Fieldon to the late Louis H. & Blanche A. (Williams) Vahle. He served in the Army in WW II and for the past 13 years had been supervisor of the Illinois Valley Work Project at the Susnig Center in Jerseyville. He married Ilda Marie (Cunningham) Vahle, July 6, 1941, in Jerseyville. He was a member of Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #492, VFW Post #4528 and First United Methodist church, Jerseyville. Surviving are his wife, Ilda; 3 sons, Roger, Kane, Ronald of Naples, Florida and Rodney of Jerseyville; 1 sister Emma Powers, Grafton; 7 grandchildren; and 3 g-grandchildren. The funeral was March 14, at First United Methodist church with Rev. Mike Michels officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post #492 and VFW Post #45280. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist church, Kidney research and the Heart Association.

Urban Francis "Bud" Postlewait, 55, of 1112 E. Spruce St., Jerseyville, was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:55 am on 1 March 1975 at Jersey Community Hospital. He was born 30 June 1919 in Greene County, a son of Urban D. and Mary Ann Schnelton Postlewait. Postlewait, a former mechanic, was a World War II veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and a past commander at Kane. His survivors include his widow, Mrs. June Williamson Postlewait; three Sons, Urban P. Postlewait of R. R. 4, Dennis M. of Champaign and Kim of Kane; stepsons, Ronald and Randy Williamson of Alton and Michael Williamson of Jerseyville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Gail Wilkinson of Alton and Debra Williamson of Springfield; a brother and sister, George R. Postlewait of Godfrey and Mrs. A. J. Hansen of Carrollton. Final rites were conducted Tuesday morning 4 March at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Heintz officiating. Interment was at St. John's cemetery in Carrollton. The family designated the heart fund as a memorial.

Died 04-1980. A former Jerseyville resident, Marjorie (Parsell) Thomas, 63, of Normandy, Missouri, died Wednesday am at Barnes hospital, St. Louis, following an illness of 4 weeks. Born in Jerseyville, a daughter of the late Everett & Gertrude (Wedding) Parsell, she was a retired employee of Doan Agriculture Company. Surviving are 1 Daughter, Trudy Montelth of Manchester, Missouri; and 2 sons, William Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, and John W. of Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation will be from 2-9 pm today at Lupton Funeral Home, 7233 Delmar, University City. Funeral services willbe held at 10 am Friday at trinity Presbyterian church, 6800 Washington, University City, and burial will be in Valhalla cemetery, St. Louis. The church and the heart fund have been named as memorials.

He died 7 January 1980 at Jersey Community Hospital. Kessler was an electrician at Central Electric in Alton. Born 29 August 1914 in South Dakota, he was a son of Christian and Olive Levi Kessler. He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Krause whom he married 2 March 1935 in Alton; a son, Ronald of Jerseyville; two Daughters, Loretta Hagen of Granite City and Esther Gowin of Jerseyville; one brother, Louis Kessler of Alton; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Visitation from 4 to 9 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers funeral home. The cancer society has been named as a memorial.
