Philip Horn
Philip Horn was born in Germany 6-14-1865, and died 12-28-1927 in East Saint Louis, St. Clair County, IL. He was a stone mason. He married Emma Doll. She was from Lebanon, IL. She died in 1898 shortly after the birth of their son George Horn. Philip Horn was related to the Horns who lived in the Jersey County, IL area. I have not been able to establish how he was related, but I'm sure he was related in some way, because Mary (Gibson) Horn, John Horn's daughter, said her father told her his father Philip Horn was related to the Horns who lived in the Jersey County, IL area. Philip and Emma (Doll) Horn had 2 children-John P. Horn and George Horn.
(1) Philip and Emma (Doll) Horn's son John P. Horn was born 4-8-1896 in East Saint Louis, St. Clair County, IL. He died 2-6-1981 in Waverly, Iowa. He was in the Military Service in the U. S. Army and was a World War I Veteran. He married Elizabeth M. Kraushaar 1-1-1920, the daughter of Charles and Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar. She was born 4-12-1899 in English Township, Jersey County, IL. She died 9-29-1976 in Iowa. She is buried at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Horn's obituary - Mrs. John Horn, 77, 201 Iowa, Waverly, Iowa, passed away Wednesday nigt, September 29, 1976 at the Waverly Municipal Hospital where she had been a patient for 10 days.
Elizabeth M. Kraushaar was born July 12, 1899 in Fieldon, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Caroline (Haushalter) Kraushaar. On July 1st 1920 she was united in marriage to John P. Horn in East St. Louis, Ill. The couple lived in East St. Louis until 1939 when they moved to Caseyville, Ill. In 1964 they moved to Waverly. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Waverly.
Survivers include her husband, John, one daughter, Mary, Mrs. Earl Gibson of Shell Rock, Ia., one sister, Mrs. Lovie Westfall of Pearl, Ill., nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 2, 1;30 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Waverly with the Rev. Royce Wolden officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls.The Kaiser-Carson Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of arrangements.

Her burial was in Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, in Waterloo, IA. Mary Alice Horn married Earl H. Gibson June 13, 1947. He was born December 23, 1921, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Earl H. and Agnes E. (Martin) Gibson Sr. He died June 24, 1993 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA. His burial was in Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, in Waterloo, IA. He farmed in Iowa. He was in the Military Service and was a U. S. Air Force Veteran. Earl and Mary Alice (Horn) Gibson had 9 children-Mona Gibson married Albert F. Rahlf, the son of Albert and Velma Rahlf of New Hampton, IA, and lives in Waterloo, Iowa; Stuart Gibson married Tari and lives in Woodstock, Georgia; Laura Gibson married Larry Miller and lives in Fairfield, Iowa; Duane Gibson married Julie and lives in Shell Rock, Iowa; Wylene Gibson married Gregory Heidorn and lives in Rochester, Minnesota; Peggy Gibson married Allen Jacobs and lives in Jefferson, Iowa; Karen Gibson married Ray Johnson and lives in Belgrade, Montana; Kent Gibson married Brenda and lives in Denver, Iowa; and Brad Gibson married Peggy and lives in Charles City, Iowa---John and Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Horn lived in Caseyville, IL where he worked at a steel mill in St. Louis, MO, and later retired in Iowa near their daughter Mary Alice (Horn) Gibson.

Mary A. (Horn) Gibson's obituary - Mary Alice Gibson, 79, of Denver, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at Allen Hospital, Waterloo. She was born March 31, 1929, in East St. Louis, Ill., daughter of John P. and Elizabeth Kraushaar Horn. She married Earl Gibson on June 13, 1947. He died in June 1993. Mrs. Gibson and her husband farmed near Shell Rock from 1953 until retiring in 1985.
Survived by: five daughters, Mona (Albert) Rahlf of Waterloo, Wylene (Gregory) Heidorn of Rochester, Minn., Laura (Larry) Miller of Fairfield, Peggy (Allen) Jacobs of Jefferson and sons, Stuart (Tari) of Woodstock, Ga., Duane (Julie) of Shell Rock, Kent (Brenda) of Denver and and Brad (Becky) of Charles City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with burial in Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Kaiser Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the family. After the death of his first wife Emma (Doll) Horn in 1898 Philip Horn married Katherine (Kate) Haushalter, the daughter of George and Margaret (Schiller) Haushalter. (She was my mother's aunt and a sister to her mother) She married Phillip Horn 3-16-1901 Jerseyville, Jersey County, IL. Katherine (Kate) Haushalter was born in 1873 near Fieldon, Richwood Township, Jersey County, Illinois, and died in 1947 in St. Louis, MO. She had been married before to Henry Groppel. Henry Groppel was the son of Herman H. and Johanna Augusta (Rudolph) Groppel. He was born 3-17-1866 in Jersey County, IL. He died 10-12-1899 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. She married Henry Groppel 2-22-1890 Jerseyville, Jersey County, IL, and they had 3 daughters-Augusta "Gussie" Groppel, Margaret "Maggie" Catherine Groppel (twin to Gussie), and Frances Groppel.

She was married first to John Wachter and they had a daughter Loretta Wachter. After their marriage Frances and John Wachter and their daughter Loretta lived in East St. Louis, IL a block from Frances's mother Katherine. Frances's first husband John Wachter was in a car accident, and later became insane and was hospitalized in a mental institution in Alton, IL where he later died. John and Frances (Groppel) Wachter's daughter Loretta Wachter married Keith Martin, and they lived in Springfield, IL. After John Wachter died Frances married Arthur Dabbs and lived in the Otterville, IL area.
After her first husband Henry Groppel's death George and Margaret (Schiller) Haushalter's daughter Katherine (Haushalter) Groppel married Phillip Horn 3-16-1901 in Jersey County, IL. Philip and Katherine (Haushalter) Groppel Horn had two sons-Arthur Horn and Phillip Horn.
(1) Philip and Katherine (Haushalter) Groppel Horn's son Arthur Horn never married and lived in the Detroit, Michigan area. He is deceased. He worked in an auto manufacturng plant in Detroit, Michigan.
(2) Philip and Katherine (Haushalter) Groppel Horn's son Phillip Horn married and lived in Taylor, Michigan. He worked at one of the auto manufacturing plants there in Detroit, Michigan. He is deceased. I don't have any information about Phillip Horn's wife or children, except I remember Philip Horn had a son Don Horn who played football for the University of Iowa back in the 1950's or 1960's. He was star running back, and I recall the Iowa team he was on was a very good football team and was in a Rose Bowl Game, or maybe it was the Orange Bowl or one of the other big bowl games.
Samuel Dabbs
Samuel Dabbs, a native of South Carolina, made a settlement on section 8, in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL, about the year 1826. His son, was William W. Dabbs.

William Washington Dabbs was the son of Samuel and Mary (Link) Dabbs.

Samuel Dabbs, a native of South Carolina, made a settlement on section 8, in this township, about the year 1826. His son, W. W. Dabbs, is a resident of the township still, living near the old homestead.
W. W. Dabbs is a son of Samuel and Mary (Link) Dabbs, who were pioneers of Jersey county. Samuel Dabbs was a native of Kentucky, and his wife of Tennessee. They came to Illinois in 1805, and to what is now Jersey county in 1826, settling upon Sec. 8, Otter Creek township, which was the birth place of the subject of this sketch. He was born ont he 8th day of June, 1836. He obtained his educations in the common schools of that township, and there grew to manhood. Nov. 5, 1855, he was married to Catherine Worthey, a native of Tennessee. Nine children were born to them: John M., George F., Lindley, Hattie E., Margaret E., Emma E., Nellie Jane, Oscar and Mary E.
Mr. Dabbs owns a large farm, comprising 534 acres, and follows farming. He was engaged in a meat market 13 years. Politically Mr. Dabbs is a republican, having voted with that party since its organization. He has held the office of school director and is a member of the A. F. & A. M. Samuel Dabbs died Dec. 12, 1853, and his widow, Mrs. Mary Dabbs, Sept. 12, 1855. Both are buried in the old cemetery at Otterville.

Samuel Dabbs was a brother to Jesse Dabbs who married Mathilda Marsh. Samuel Dabbs's father was James Dabbs born in 1782 in SC, and died in 1841 in Jersey County, IL. Samuel Dabbs mother was Mary (Harris) Dabbs born in 1788 in SC, and died in 1852 in Jersey County, IL. James Dabbs was the son of Nathaniel Dabbs and Elizabeth (Haney) Dabbs. Nathaniel Dabbs was born in 1737, the son of Joseph and Nancy (Hoggatt) Dabbs of Goochland and Lunenburg Counties., VA. Other children of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Haney) Dabbs were-Josiah Dabbs, born 1762, John Dabbs oldest son of Nathaniel born 1762 (also) married to Jane (Sis) Gaddy, and a daughter Nancy Dabbs born 1800 married to John Birmingham.
(1) William W. and Catherine (Worthy) Dabbs's son John W. Dabbs was born in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL. He died 6-19-1941 in Jersey County. He is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. He married Mary J. Bruer 2-22-1886 in Jersey County, IL. He later married Mary Reister 2-4-1891 in Jersey County, IL. John W. Dabbs's wife - Mary L. (Reister) Dabbs, born 11-02-1865, Elsah, Jersey County, Illinois, died 06-03-1956, buried 09-03-1956, Otterville cemetery. Mary L. Dabbs, whose 91st birthday occurred on February 11 died Tuesday evening, March 6, at 9 pm at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, City Commissioner & Mrs. Henry Horn, in Jerseyville. Mrs Dabbs had suffered a stroke on February 13 and her condition had been critical since that time. Prior to her illness she had enjoyed good health and had been quite active for her age.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob & Christina (Vernow) Reister and was born near Elsah on February 11, 1865. She had lived all of her life in Jersey County. Mrs Dabbs was the widow of John W. Dabbs whose death occurred in January 1921. In 1928, Mrs. Dabbs and her daughter, Miss Hattie, moved from their farm to the Horn residence where they have resided since. The nonagenarian was the surviving member of a family of 8 brotherss and sisters. Her only immediate survivors are her 2 daughters, Mrs. Henry Horn and Miss Hattie Dabbs. Friends may call at Gubser Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held there Friday afternoon at 2 pm. Rev. F. W. Schwarzlose pastor of First Methodist church, will officiate and burial will be in Otterville cemetery.

He is buried at the Noble Cemetery, Otter Creek Township, Jerseyville, IL. He married Rosetta Johnson 4-7-1880 in Jersey County, IL. She was born 3-29-1871, and died 12-25-1938. She was the daughter of Richard and Mary E. (Howell) Johnson. She is buried at Noble Cemetery, Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL. They had 4 children-Lester Franklin Dabbs, Arthur W. Dabbs, and 2 daughters (names unknown).

George and Lena (Cope) Frazer's daughter Marcella Rose "Mickey" (Frazer) Steinkuehler's obituary - Marcella Rose "Mickey" Steinkuehler, 78, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at her home. She was born May 16, 1930, in Otterville, to George and Lena (Cope) Frazer. A homemaker and farm wife, she married Eugene Steinkuehler on Aug. 14, 1954, at Bethel Baptist Church. He survives. In addition to her husband, surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamela Gowin and Sandy and John Clark, all of Jerseyville, and Kim and Ed Snyder of Shipman; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Bobbi Steinkuehler and Michael Steinkuehler, all of Jerseyville; grandchildren and spouses, Tracy and Ben Gilmore, Tabitha and Donald Bortz, Jim and Alison Clark, Doug and Anna, Chris and Whitney and Robert Steinkuehler, Ryan Clark, Justin and Jennifer Steinkuehler and Merissa and Shon Graden; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, George Frazer, and a sister, Ruth Richey. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Pastor Michael Parsons will officiate. Elmer and Nellie (Dabbs) Landon's son - Roy Raymond (Ray) Landon, Sr. of route 3, Jerseyville died Oct. 4, 1972, with Rev. James Connett, pastor of the First Methodist church in Jerseyville officiating at the funeral. Burial was in the White cemetery. The Fieldon Masonic Lodge conducted Masonic rites at the funeral home Friday night. Mr. Landon, a retired farmer, died at 3:20 o'clock pm., 4 Oct. at the Jersey Comm. Hospital.

Kearney and Alice (Busch) Dabbs's daughter Betty (Dabbs) Cunningham's husband Clifton I. Cunningham's obituary - Clifton I. Cunningham, 82, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He went to his Lord with his family at his side. He loved his Lord, family and country. He was born March 23, 1926, in Alton to Clifton and Lula (Groppel) Cunningham. He married the former Betty Dabbs on Sept. 24, 1947, in Jerseyville. She survives. He served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, during World War II in France and Germany with the 82nd Airborne and from 1950 to 1952 with the 18th Combat Engineers during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Fieldon Baptist Church, Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and was a charter member of the World War II Memorial in New Orleans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Terri and Gerald Scott of Fieldon, Trudy and Bob Pritchard of Palm Beach, Fla., and Tina and Gary Vahle of Jerseyville; a son and his wife, Todd and Penny Cunningham of Fieldon; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Rodney Allen of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Tab Cunningham; and a sister and her husband, Lida and Louis Vahle. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10. Pastor Ralph Schultz will officiate. Burial will be at Gunterman Cemetery in Fieldon. Military graveside rites will be performed by American Legion Post 492 of Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the Fieldon Baptist Church or Gunterman Cemetery.

Herschel Dabbs's wife Freda Mae (Stevens) Dabbs's obituary - Freda Mae Dabbs, 93, died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the Jacksonville Convalescent Center, where she had been a resident for the past six months. She was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Linder Township in Greene County to Roy R. and Lula (Grizzle) Stevens. She married Herschel Dabbs on April 29, 1936, in Alton, and the two shared 54 years together before his death on Oct. 11, 1990. She was a member of the Jerseyville Ladies of the Moose and VFW Auxiliary but was especially happy assisting her husband on the family farm near Otterville, raising her family, gardening and virtually anything that had to do with the outdoors. They spent many years together, but after the death of her husband, she decided it was time to move to Jerseyville, where she lived for several years before moving to Edgewood Manor Retirement Home in White Hall, where she was cared for and loved.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Loretta Buster of Jacksonville and Virginia and Bud Collins of Monticello, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Ray and Carolyn Dabbs of Carlsbad, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Kinser of Austin, Texas; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Stevens of Wood River and Juanita Dabbs of Jerseyville. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce Ebert, on May 28, 2006; a grandson, Joseph Buster Jr.; a great-grandson, Aaron Purcell; a son-in-law, Joseph Buster Sr.; three brothers, Roy H. "Tug," William Stevens Sr. and an infant, Earl; and two sisters, her twin, Meda Garver, and Vena Wieneke. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Joy Settles will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
