The Call

When He Calls Me, I Will Answer

Excerpts from the theme exposition session by Rev. Dr. Ipe Joseph

The senior students' conference for the year 98 commenced on 8th. Oct. 1998 at the United Indian School, Abbassia. Excerpt from the theme exposition session:

The theme was analysed based on the following understanding.

1.       Our understanding of life as an act of freedom in obedience to the call of God.

  *   Life is a stimulus response system.

  *   God's call is the stimulus and our answer is the responses.

  *   When God calls us, we can either say Yes or No, but we must always say Yes

  1. God calls us for a purpose.

  2. Each one of us is unique because God has a specific purpose about each one of us.

  • Each one of us is the only one so unique in this world created by God.

  • Obedience to the call is the key to Faithfulness.

  • Successful life need not be always faithful life. What God demands from us is faithful life, which might look to the world like failures.

A current affairs presentation by Mr. Vineeth Abraham was another highlight of the introductory session.

Panel Discussion: The world Today and Your Tomorrow

The highlight of the day was an effective presentation form a set of panellist derived from a cross section of the society. Panel consist of a student representative, an young adult, a doctor, a mother, a high school principal, a business administrator representing political / business field, and a religious reader. The anchorperson for the panel discussion was Mr. Rajan Mathew. The gist of the panel discussion:

Selection of Career: Children should pursue their profession of interest rather than the interest of the society or their parents. It is the aptitude and the interest that should be the main criteria for career selection.

Ragging: Students should be mentally prepared for the ragging they should face in the initial year in their professional study. The ideal way is to be to give the seniors what they want upto a point and do not be arrogant, cheeky or act smart and try to get tuned to it

Loneliness: Make a good friend or two to avoid loneliness

Corruption: A true valued person is often a misfit in today's business/political arena. The situation has reached a point that a honest man can not make profit honestly. However a movement of change in the society has begun. Right values with right attitudes should be imparted to the younger generation. World have sufficient resource to everybody's needs but not for everybody's greed.

The students should be motivated to share and give. They should have the ability to empathies with fellow human beings. Finally we should understand that dividing things as secular and scared is meaningless and everybody can work for God in their own field.

The panel was successful in achieving their objectives of presenting their views on a predefined set of topics to the conference participants. The discussions were in-depth, concise and to the point organized and presented well within the limited facilities available. Similar discussions in the future should also include provision for interaction between the audience and the panelist.

Rev. Dr. Ipe Joseph

I feel very happy after the first day. You are all well receptive and responsive. Girls are definitely smarter than the boys as of today. I hope that the boys will out-smart the girls in the coming days. I encourage you to do the psychological scan exercise which will give you further insight about yourselves. Good Luck!

Ask Your Achen

---

Question Hour.

  • Does God call and talk to us directly? Can we have Vision? How can you hear God?
  • Yes. e.g., Sadhu Sunder Singh.
Yes, God uses His own channels to call you.
Listen to yourself in the silence of prayer, listen to your parents, evangelist, etc.
  • When I am in trouble and there is no way out...What to do?
  • Cry out to Lord, Don't give up, Call out to Almighty God.
  • Is making friendship with opposite sex wrong?
  • No! It's healthy. But avoid abuse of body. The body is the temple of God,
  • Why do parents always tell us not to do this and that? I feel that they are old fashioned.
  • They are not old-fashioned, but they belong to old generation. The values are different. No parent intends to harm his or her children. Try to understand your parent, language, culture and tradition. Don't be shy to own your parent.
  • Why do we fall in love with opposite sex?
  • God has made us that way. God has made a matter by mixing body and heart in love. It's God's mechanism. Homosexual relationship is sin.
  • Is asking God to end life is wrong? How do I know that God loves me?
  • Yes. Your existence in this world at this instance is due to God's love.
  • How can I get closer to God?
  • Pray more, Read Bible regularly, and understand the word of God.
  • Why do Achens have beard
  • No special reason...Probably to hide their ugly faces... (It was a symbol of holy dedication to the work of God in the olden times. May be that's the why...)
  • Where will we go after death?
  • Coffin!!
We will be taken to eternal rest, raised and judged when God come again
  • Is inter cast marriage a sin?
  • No. However, marriage is an intimate relationship and hence cultural adjustments can be difficult for inter-cast marriage. Further, the marriage should not get into your way of relationship with God.
