Kids:
Giraffes Can't DanceGreat pictures, great moral story too. Great for the kid library.
Love is a Handful of Honey, by Andreae and Cabban. We got this book as a gift, and the first time I read it, I got tears in my eyes. Contains lots of cute animals explaining love in different ways. A must have for the kiddie library.
Mouse Mess. A mouse has a snack and makes a terrible mess in the process. Sound like anyone in your house?
Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom, by John Archambault. The little letters all race to the top of the coconut tree, which collapses under the weight. The capital letters show up to fix all the skinned knees and noses. Adorable.
My Mom is Excellent, by Nick Butterworth. I'm partial to this one for the obvious reason.
Pigs Aplenty, Pigs Galore!, by David McPhail. Pigs show up a this poor guy's house and cause all sorts of havoc ... including ordering a pizza which cracks me up everytime.
Noisy Poems, Compiled by Jill Bennett. These get Alan all tongue-tied but the kids love them.
Kitchen Confidential, by Anthony Boudain. If you like cooking, restaurants and frank talk, you'll love this one written by a New York City chef. Alan is reading now and loving it as well. Definitely recommend.
The Nanny Diaries. A great spoof on nannying in NYC for the very well to do. Some I know who read this took it pretty seriously and found it sad -- I just read it as a spoof and laughed out loud at times.
The Red Tent. I loved this! Definitely on the all time favorites list. Historical old testament fiction. Fantastic!
Final Gifts. In 2002, I lost my childhood friend Cheryl to melanoma and my Grandma Verna. This book gave me peace.
Many Lives, Many Masters. This one convinced me that even when I'm gone, my spirit will come back in some other form to continue to hassle everyone. Something about that gives me peace (and a wicked bunch of giggles.)
Memoirs of a Geisha. Whoa! I really liked this book. Inside scoop on geisha life.
The Abduction. Good vacation read about the kidnapping of a Presidential candidate's granddaughter.
Patty Jane's House of Curl. Any book with two characters named Aunt Harriet and Grandma Ione is a must read for me! And it's based in a beauty salon ... did someone write a book about my family and forget to tell me?
The Pilot's Wife. I liked this book a lot -- an Oprah book club selection. Story of a wife learning many secrets after her husband is killed in a plane crash.
The 11th Commandment, by Jeffrey Archer. If you like Jeffrey Archer, you will love this one. I read it in one day while on vacation. Alan was so fascinated by my addiction that he read it the next two days! Story of a CIA operative on a big mission.
Kane and Abel, by Jeffrey Archer. This is one of my all time favorite books.
The Wild Rose, by Doris Mortman. Another great vacation read. Not exactly intellectual, but such a great story of a Hungarian Pianist trapped in Nazi-occupied countries during WWII and then her ultimate arrival in America. Endearing characters. My copy is tattered from re-reading it and loaning it.
