Needlework stitched by Tara
Scholtz
Yup - a lot of stuff really needs to be framed
or "finished".
"Diane's Delight
1 - A Third Time"
Designed by Diane Evans
It's hard to see scanned in since the piece is done
with cream-coloured threads on a cream-coloured background. There is some
use of colour (a variagated thread) but it's kept to a minimum.
Bear
Designed by ?
This next one is a cross stitch piece of a bear holding
a star. (I don't remember the designer or the chart name.) It was made
to be a baby announcement for
a friend's adopted child. Later the top included the
baby's name. The sides were of the last two lines of an adoption
poem:
"Never forget for a single minute -
You weren't born under my heart but in it."
"Alyssum"
Designed by Ellie Jollay
A lot of my designs have purple in them. I swear
it just happens that way and it's not a conscious decision!! It is, however,
a favorite colour of mine.
I also scanned in the center detail which you
can view here.
"Il Fiore di Assisi"
Designed by Margaret
M. Frederick
This pulled canvas design (a type of needlepoint
design) is done in a deep lavender
silk thread. Unfortunately, in scanning the design in I
can't quite get the image to capture the deep purple colour. Assisi work,
which the Iris represents, is a design done in colours on linen, in which
the design is left bare and outlined in a dark colour against a cross stitch
of a light shade.
Next is a large
crewel design done of a floral motif. I stitched this several
years ago and I'm afraid I don't remember the
designer's name or the name
of the piece.
Rainbow Gem
Designed by Jean Hilton
This item is a cute little needlepoint design.
Notice the purple....
"Distrikt"
Designed by Tara Scholtz
Another crewel piece! This one is a design I did
myself. The picture is of a
horse who belongs to a friend of mine from Equine-L
(a listserv dedicated to all things equestrian). Distrikt is a horse I've
never met but due to an excellent photo sent by his owner, Lutz, I was
able to reproduce a likeness to the best of my ability.
Hardanger
design
Designed by the Nordic
Needle staff
Now here's a design of which I played around with
the basics of hardanger embroidery. I did not design this and the
information will be forthcoming.

These next three items are parts of a round robin
I participated in starting in 1996 and on through 1997 (a bunch of us were
slow/busy). Everyone in the group did beautiful work and the theme was
primarily a band sampler. That is a design in which each horizontal band
of the stitching is a different stitch or motif - to give young stitchers
practice on different types of stitching as well as motifs to remember
and use later on other pieces. Originally a sampler is a "practice" item.
Here, however, the stitchers did beautiful work on a floral motif or on
just a traditional borders and edgings.
"Celebrations"
Designed by Emie
Bishop
I adapted this design for a friend's wedding.
The original motif consists of pink roses and a light blue thread for the
writing.
Bunny's Tail
Designed by Ruth
A. Sparrow
Isn't he the cutest thing? I participated in
a class given by Ruth Sparrow & sponsored by Stitching
Pretty (Laurel, MD). If you ever get a chance to attend one of
Ruth Sparrow's classes, go for not only the education but the entertainment.
For example, with the help of a VERY LARGE needle, she can guide
you to mastering the colonial knot.
Strawberries
Part of the American
Legacy Collection by the Historic Needlework Guild
Another crewel design. Someday this will be "finished"
as a tiny pillow.
Humble Home
Designed by Heart
in Hand
Buttons! This design employs the cutest
little black bird button.
"Have a Heart"
Designed by Just
Nan
I want to thank Cheryl of Canada for giving me the proper attribution for this design. It was published in 1997 as a complimentary shop pattern.
Pansy Sampler
Accent
Designed by Periwinkle
Promises
Once I finish the tassels, this project will be "finished"
as a pillow. This design came as a kit with linen fabric and silk floss.
Floral Crewel Bellpull
Designed by ?
Yup, another one where I can't remember squat about
the title of the piece or the designer's name. Sorry. It is a lovely design
though. |
