A lifelong love of wildlife and nature inspires my art in oils or watercolors. I have spent many hours observing wildlife in their own natural environment.
It is pure joy to photograph any wildlife that crosses my path, or nature scenes that confirm the handiwork of God. Time stands still as a story unfolds in front of the camera. Many photographs are later used as reference material for new wildlife art.
Original oil paintings, original watercolors and framed prints of artwork can be seen in Maine at the Christmas Classics Gallery in Rangeley, Maine on a year-round basis, with additional framed prints of art at Riverview Farm Crafts and Collectibles on Lisbon Road in Lisbon, Maine. The widest variety of art is available at the outdoor art shows (this year's show schedule is listed below).
Boxed note cards of a variety of eight (8) images are available several places in Maine: Christmas Classics Gallery of Rangeley, Riverview Farm Crafts and Collectibles on Lisbon Road in Lisbon and on the internet with Living Maine with Lou McNally at:

My main medium is oils, using an Italian glazing technique,
which is achieved through painting thin layers of color, using a very limited palette
of only seven or eight basic colors. The paintings have a unified look using the limited
palette of colors, mixed in infinite combinations. Complementary colors, colors that are
opposite the true colors on the color wheel, are used in the first layer of the painting. Then mid-tone colors are added, using liquin, a gel medium that thins the oils and speeds
the drying process to only a few hours. The first layer of complementary colors peek through the final top layer of the painting so both complementary colors are visible, creating a contiguous edge. This contiguous edge makes the colors "vibrate" with movement which creates dramatic depth and realism. In different lighting, the appearance of this art varies subtly.
Customers are curiously drawn to come closer to examine my oil paintings wherever they are exhibited. This year I have expanded my interests to include watercolor paintings. The watercolor art is created with more freedom in color and style. The new watercolor art is not yet included on this web site, but will be added at a later date.
