Visit with Jim and Melissa

Jane, Fred, and Jeff visited Jim and Melissa in May, 1999. Jimmy picked us up at the San Jose Airport late in the day and took us to our motel, which was within walking distance of Jim's house. They live only a few blocks from the beach in downtown Santa Cruz.

On Thursday, while Melissa was working, Jim took us to the Tech Museum in San Jose. It was a hands-on science museum with emphasis on computers (we are in "Silicon Valley"). That night we all had dinner at the El Palomar in Santa Cruz.

The next day Melissa joined us for a trip to the Ano Nuevo State Reserve. It is on the ocean and is home for many elephant seals.

Saturday we met Melissa's parents, Peggy and Hollis, and Aunt Val. We all took a ride on the old Southern Pacific railroad which makes a round trip from the Santa Cruz boardwalk (the only one on the West Coast) to the Red Wood forests in the hills outside the city. Afterwards we had a nice seafood dinner at the Riva on the Santa Cruz Warf.
