The Gulfarium

When we moved to the Florida panhandle in February 2000, my sister and her husband and my youngest brother came down from Missouri to help us move.  The weather was beautiful, so after we moved everything into our new house, we drove down to the coast and did the tourist thing, starting with the Gulfarium. (Josh got a little tired, and made the boys carry him around for awhile, as you can see if you click the thumbnail to the right.)

Anglers Bar & Grill

After the Gulfarium, we went next door to Angler's Bar & Grill.  Behind the bar, you can walk out onto the Okaloosa Pier, and beneath the pier is a great beach with playground equipment for the kids.  The food is delicious, and they make a really good margarita there, so I highly recommend this place.

Under the pier

It was a warm day, but the water was frigid.  Of course, that didn't keep Marya and the kids from getting wet.  And, of course, Brandon had to be buried in the sand so he could fill my van with the sticky white stuff.

Sunset on the beach

The sun was setting, so we decided to call it a day and come back tomorrow.

Sand Castles

The next day we packed up a couple of coolers and went to a public beach in Destin.

Buried in the Sand

Josh and Scott had to bury each other, so I went home with yet more sand in my van.  That stuff is almost impossible to vacuum out of the carpet!

We had a really good time, and I hope they'll come again next spring.  This time I won't have to put them to work unpacking me and putting up curtains and stuff.
