AFTERMATH

I can tell you what i have learned.
If i close my eyes tight,
Clear the clutter from my mind,
I can be here, in the same place, but in a different time.
I touch nothing
For fear of disturbing a memory.
As a mother watches her sleeping infant,
Each tiny breath, each gentle movement
Fills her heart with awe.
Thus I look around these tired rooms, and now
I feel the tebirth of my soul.
But i learned that the pain comes later, in the aftermath.

I see you in the blend of light and shadow.
My eyes burn from your heat.
My heart hears what my ears cannot fathom
But with each passing day, the sounds grow fainter
As they yield to oncoming truth.
Distance has crept into your voice.
My mind has gone numb with fatigue.

I can tell you what i know.
Hearts can talk, one on one.
Eyes Speak with honesty.
Laughter fills the sky with rainbows.
It is possible to cry from joy.
I know that i can touch with the wonder of a child.
I tasted contentment and savored its warmth.
Love is a promise freely given, faithfully kept.
But as the last leaf drifts from the branch to the ground,
A nest built of dreams lies exsposed to the cold.
Time's patient fingers can loosen the tightest weave,
Winds of reality can scatter our dearest hopes
In the endless winter of the aftermath.

This poem was written by a very good friend of mine that i met online. This last summer i had the pleasure of meeting her face to face and she showed me some wonderful sites. She made sure i got to the train on time and she made sure i got to the plane on time to go home. A few of us that chat together got together that last weekend i was there. I had such a wonderful time. I was very happy when she said I could include this in my website. This page is for you Goodbunny. Thanks for the goodtimes and heres to the fun still ahead.
