The Falls These are Linville Falls, viewed from an observation point, about a one mile hike from the parking area.
The Gorge Linville Gorge is a deep winding gorge downstream from the falls. It's a protected wilderness area. This is seen from the same spot at the falls picture above--just looking the other way.
Our Campsite This is the national parkway campground. The pretty scene is a bit deceiving, though. Compared to the state parks and Army Corps of Engineer sites, the national parkway campgrounds aren't as nice. The rangers are unfriendly, the sites are close together with few or no intervening trees or bushes, they don't have showers, and they have a lot of stupid rules posted all over the place. They're basically only good for people driving RVs down the parkway who want to pull over to eat and sleep. Fortunately, once outside of the campground, the area is beautiful and offers lots of hiking among streams and the falls, through the forests, down the wilderness gorge, and along the ridges. And there are national forest campgrounds nearby, too, which are wilder, less regulated, and cheaper. Misty Morning Scene Hiking to the Falls Overlook Group Picture Here we are at the overlook with our friend, Jeff. You know what? It gets a little tiring carrying a sleeping baby in your arms as you hike through the mountains, but that's nothing compared to having to carry Lisa, the 4-year old! Trang had to take the baby when I had to take Lisa.
