Patterson, Bevin, Box 4 #13. Clerk of Court Office. Spartanburg, S.C. Bevin Patterson died in 1807. He owned land on Pacolet River, bounded By land of Joshua Petit, Robert Barnet, Ephraim Jackson, and leaving a mother,Elizabeth Patterson and nine brothers and sisters, vix: Molly, the wife of James Campbell; Omy, the wife of Alexander Simmons; Elizabeth, the wife of Samuel Parsons; Anna, the wife of Isaac Sinclair; Epsy, or Essy, the wife of Reuben Simmons; Sally, the wife of William Herron; and Jarrett; William; and Edward Patterson. Who all reside out of the state, except his mother and Edward Patterson. All were above the age of 21 yrs. ..filed, Nov. 8, 1820.

Patterson, Cary P., #192. Clerk of Court Office. Abbeville, S.C. Abbeville Dist. In Equity, to the Honr., the Chancellors: The petition of Cary P. Patterson, formerly of this Dist. and State. But now of Jasper Co., Miss. Shewth that before his removal from this Dist. The children of your petitioner to wit, Ann O. E. Patterson, W.T. Patterson, Sarah J. Patterson, and Eliza P. Patterson became entitled to an estate under a deed of their grandfather Moses Taggart, dec'd in value estimated $1,500. These children are all under age and unable to manage their est. Your petitioner was about to remove from the State, given written consent that the relative of his children and his personal friend Moses T. Owen might be appointed their guardian. In the term of 1851 court, Moses T. Owen was appointed guardian of said minors. In order to handle the minors estate better, he prays that the estate be removed to Jasper Co., Miss... Patterson, Josiah, Pack 438. Clerk of Court Office. Abbeville, S.C. Abbeville Dist. In Equity, to the Hon'r, the Chancellors: Your orator Josiah Patterson and your oratrix his wife Nancy Patterson sheweth. Your orator being now near seventy years of age is very old and feeble. Has not only brought up on his physical weekness, but also greatly impaired his intellect, which was never strong. He is childless and his wife is almost as old as himself. A few years ago he possessed with about two hundred acres of land and about ten slaves, sufficient to have supplied himself and wife in their years. They have been deprived of the possession and use of their property. In the year 1852, John Patterson, one of the nephews of your orator, under the pretext of paying off the debts of their property, procured Josiah to sign a paper conveying his whole estate to said, John Patterson. Who has taken the whole of the property, leaving them unprotected and almost unprovided for. The fatal paper purported to be a trust deed, and provides first for the use and benefit of Josiah and wife Nancy during their natural lives. And in case Mrs. Jane Bradley, then the wife of Archibald Bradley should die without heirs which has happened. The whole was to be the property of John Patterson. Josiah and wife states they had full confidence in the said nephew, as their trustee or agent. Therefore your orator prays that the said paper be set aside, as unjust in these terms...Filed, April 29, 1858. Archibald Bradley states that the old folks lived in the same house he was born in, near Patterson Bridge. Joseph Bridge states that Mrs. Josiah Patterson was an aunt, that she lived with some maiden sisters before marriage. James H. Britt states he lived all his life with his aunts. Dr. John Sanders has been their physician.

Shewth that Josiah Patterson, the husband of your oratrix and brother of full blood of your orator departed this life intestate about August 6, 1860. Possessed with a tract of land in said Dist. lying on Long Cane Creek at the Patterson Bridge, containing 193 acres. Bounded by land of Archibald Bradley, John Wideman. Admr. on the estate was granted to Nancy Patterson and Archibald Bradley. The intestate departed this life without children, his only heirs and distributee, your oratrix, his widow, your orator a brother of full blood, the children of James Patterson, dec'd, another brother of full blood, namely John Patterson, Jane Patterson, Mary Patterson, Alexander Patterson a son of James Patterson, dec'd., died leaving a daughter, Mary Ann, now the wife of William Clay. The family of James Patterson lives in Abbeville Dist. and all of full age. Also a brother Malcolm Patterson, dec'd of whole blood who died in Morgon Co., Al. in Feb. 1859. Heirs Andrew M. Patterson, Jane Patterson, the wife of Daniel Patterson, John Patterson, Josiah Patterson, and Catherine M. Patterson, a minor who lives in Morgan Co., and ___ Patterson and Malcolm Patterson, Jr. now living in the state of Texas. Alexander Patterson, a son of Malcolm Patterson dec'd. died in Texas leaving chlidren name and number unknown. Malcolm Patterson, Sr., died leaving a widow Mary Patterson who has no interest. Patterson, a son of your orator, departed this life about May, 1837, intestate and under age, leaving no wife or child. Leaving as heirs and distributees your orator the father, his brothers Josiah C. Patterson, Napolean Patterson, and James M. Patterson the only child of a dec'd. brother Rob't. Patterson. Napolean Patterson has since died, and his last will made Josiah C. Patterson his sole devise and executor. Larkin Reynolds has been appointed guardian of James N. Patterson, yet a minor of tender age. Wm. Patterson, dec'd. at his death was seized of a tract of land containing 520 acres, known as the Rob't. I, James Patterson, of Long Cane Creek, planter, being sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory. I give to my daughter Jenet Carswell forty shillings and to her dau. Jane McCormice three pds. and to each of her other children forty shillings. I leave to my son, Alexander Patterson all that tract of land on which he and I now lives. I leave to my son, Josiah Patterson that tract of land known as the Crawfords place on the Bold Branch. I leave to my granddaughter Agnes Mills and Katherine Graves 100 acres known as the Brady's old place branch to be equal divided between them, also my bed and beds to be equal divided between them, also my apparal to be divided between my sons. The following was sent to me by: cbowman@micron.net (Colleen Bowman) Here is a will that I found in my great grandmother's things. She was Iva Pearl Patterson born 1888 Madison Co., IN to John T. Patterson and Sarah Reason. I believe that the John in this will was Iva's father. Please keep in touch. Colleen I, Martha Patterson, of Madison county, in the state of Indiana, in view of the uncertanty of life and the certanty of death do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void any and all wills by me at any time heretofore made. 1st. I will and direct that after my death my funeral expenses be paid out of my estate and that my funeral be conducted in accord with my estate and conditions in life. 2nd. I direct that my debts, if there should be any at my death, be paid out of any money that may come into the hands of my executor and as to the remainder of my estate I will and dispose of as follows. I give and bequeath to my son, Charles M. Patterson, thirty dollars to make him equal to advancements that I have already made to the balance of my children 3rd. I give and bequeath to John T. Patterson, Mariah E. Huston (formerly Mariah E. Patterson) Mary E. Dildine (formerly Mary E. Patterson) Almeda Stidham (formerly Almeda Patterson) and Charles M. Patterson my sons and daughters, all my estate that I may die the owner of, both person and real, not here above described, disposed of share and share alike, with the following restrictions; as to the portion that I will to my son, John Patterson I will and direct that he shall have the sole use and occupancy of his share of the real estate hereby willed during his natural life, or as long as said real estate remains unsold and if said real estate should be sold by order of partition ordered by a proper action for partition, that the money arising from such sale shall be kept at interest for his benefit in the support of is family and if said interest arising from said money should not be sufficient to support him and his family with such other means he may have, then I will and direct that he may in case of necessity use of the principle of said fund, and as to the portion willed to Mariah E. Huston, I will and direct that she shall have the ownership, use and control of the same during her natural life, and then the remainder of her said portion to descend to the heirs of her body, and if she should see proper or it should become necessary for her support, she may sell said real estate and when converted into cash to keep the same at interest using said interest and such portion of the principle as may be necessary for her support and the remainder at her death to descend to the heirs of her body and as to the portion hereby willed to Mary E. Dildine and Almeda Stidham, I will that they shall own and use and occupy the real estate hereby willed them during their natural lives and then descend to the heirs of their bodies, and if they or either of them should see proper, or it should become necessary for their support, then they or either of them may sell their portion of said real estate, and when reduced to cash, to keep the same at interest and said interest and such portion of the principle as may be necessary for their support to be used at their death respectively to descend to the heirs off their bodies. I have appointed Levi Patterson, executor of this my last will with this special charge on him - that in the event that it should become necessary to sell the potion of said real estate hereby willed to John T. Patterson that my said executor shall sell said real estate and report the same to court for approval and confirmation and to take charge of and keep the purchase money at interest for the use and support of said John T. Patterson and his family to apply such portions of the principle as in his judgement as would be proper from time to time as he may need the same. Will Book L, pp. 55-56 In the name of God, Amen, I, Rezin Offutt, of the State of Virginia and Fairfax County, being in perfect health and memory blessed to the Almighty God for the same, I do hereby make and publish this my last will & Testament Written altogether in my hand writing in manner & form as follows I give & bequeath unto John S. Patterson - 5 sh. sterling I give & bequeath unto Thomas S. Patterson " " I give & bequeath unto William H. Patterson " " I give & bequeath unto Sarah Swope " " I give & bequeath unto the Heirs of Charles H. Patterson 5 shillings sterling. These are my first wife's children. I give & bequeath unto Robert H. Douglas - 5 sh. Sterling This is my present wife's son. I give & bequeath unto Rezin Offutt Smith a negro girl Cate, She & her increase forever. Herl's Gate thence with the several Course and Meanders of the Road to two Small persimmon trees where my blacksmith shop stood, thence partly west rather more Southwest, to an old walnut tree standing on what is called the walnut old field, about eighteen pole to the walnut tree, thence South to intersect with my line next to Wileys and Fairfax line, thence with my line to Fairfax and William Sheppards lines, thence to the East Station on Difficult Run, thence down the ad run with the several courses and meanders to the Beginning, near John S, Herl's Gate - this land to be sold or rented - it is not to be divided - the monies arising from rent or sale is to be divided between my three sons and daughter that is to say, James Offutt, Eli Offutt, Alfred Offutt and Eliza Smith and their heirs. If George Smith's heirs, or their representatives, should bring suit for a piece of land that Wiley now owns, joining the Tolson tract of land should there be any cost or loss of Land, the damage is to come out of the monys that will be due to Eliza Smith for her share of Land. Commentary It is probable that the witnesses to the will of Rezin Offutt, W. J. and Sarah Aldredge/Alldredge were the daughter and son-in-law of Margaret (Berry/Barrv) and her first husband, Harrison Manley; Margaret-m/2 Edward Sanford. Issue of Margaret Berry & Harrison Manley: 1. John Harrison Manley 2. Sarah Manley m. --- Aldredge, an Englishman 3. Mary Manley m/1 John Wallace Douglas; m/2 Rezin Offutt 4. Pentlope Manley The nuncupative will of Margaret Sanford, of Alexandria, Va., dated 25 Sept. 1817, was witnessed by Mary Offutt and Sarah Aldridge.
