    DEVELOPMENTS

1/8: The release date may be pushed back to July 3, 1999, though New Line's official site still says November 13, 1998.

The story will probably be based on Rob Bottin's 34-page treatment, which involves a complete retelling of each character's legend, rather than a continuation of the events from Jason Goes To Hell and Freddy's Dead (or Wes Craven's New Nightmare, for that matter).

Several other scripts have been written, though it is doubtful any will be used. Here's a rundown:

  • Peter Briggs - His millenium script is available on The Stoned Page. The link is below. Reportedly, this script was considered way too expensive to produce by New Line.
  • David Schow - His script involved a cult of Freddy worshippers resurrecting their idol. He kills a young man who is later resurrected by that man's girlfriend as Jason to destroy Freddy once and for all.
  • Brannon Bragas - He also wrote a script which is being reworked by Deborah Fine.
