Halloween: H20
Dimension | |
The producers of Halloween: H20 would like you to believe this is the third film in the series, right after part 2. Hell, director Steve Miner has been saying that viewers should even disregard part two, and that his film is the direct sequel to Halloween. Well, I disagree with that not only because I think Halloween II is one of the best slasher movies released, but also because H20 relies on some plot points that weren't revealed until part 2. But enough of this, was it any good? This film is well made, and doesn't trample on the essence of the series like parts 5 and 6 did. However, it doesn't quite reach the level of the first two. The film runs at about minutes, and should have been a little longer. It spends most of the movie getting acquainted with Laurie/Keri's new life and the people in it. Then Michael shows up on the scene and action starts IMMEDIATELY. There are none of the spooky stalking scenes from the first film. Myers is all business now. Some fans may appreciate this approach, but I feel that the first film's stalking scenes built fear and anticipation, making what happens later in the film more frightening. The background story is decent, and the killings and chases were well done. There are occasional lapses in logic, and the opening sequence seemed more like it belonged in Scream 3 than this film. Overall an acceptable entry in the series that doesn't tarnish the Halloween image. It may even help me forget part 6. A- | |
